Brief overview :
I'm a seismologist. I study earthquakes, their causes and effects, and the propagation of seismic waves in the Earth. After 6 years as a researcher at the CNRS, I was recruited as a professor at the Université Joseph Fourier at the end of 1989, and have remained there ever since. In the meantime, I was seconded to a physics laboratory (LPM2C) and spent a dozen 2-4 month periods in American and German universities. I became interested in various aspects of seismology, which led me to establish close collaborations with physicists, mathematicians and geologists. To add to these enriching interdisciplinary contacts specific to my research, I was also lucky enough to be a member of the CNRS Ethics Committee for 10 years. I have taught geophysics in general at university and have given more specialised courses at summer schools and foreign universities.
