"SOUL RETRIEVAL: GWOBONANJ""

This seven part abstract series explores identity fragmentation present in Vodou cosmology. Each heart represents our plural selves. “Gwobonanj” is our outward facing soul—the root of being and life essence.

Inspired by the research carried forth by Kyrah Malika Daniels’ “Vodou harmonizes the head-pot, or, Haiti’s multi-soul complex”, it was fantastic learning about various African philosophies. Daniels argues that “…the physical body and head serve as primordial sacred vessels in Vodou, ‘filled’ with a collective of many soul-selves…” (Daniels, 2).
