Dr. Michael Batu is a Filipino-Canadian economist and an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of the Fraser Valley in British Columbia, Canada. His research focuses on applied econometrics, applied macroeconomics, development economics, and the scholarship of teaching and learning economics.
Dr. Batu holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with Computer Applications, graduating with Academic Distinction from San Beda College in Manila. He was among the first two graduates of the Master in Applied Economics program at De La Salle University Manila. After moving to Canada, he pursued graduate studies at the University of Guelph, earning both a Master of Arts in Economics and a Ph.D. in Economics, with his dissertation titled "Three Essays in Remittance Effectiveness."
