In Loving Memory of Michael Lewis Schmitt II
In Loving Memory of Michael Lewis Schmitt II
Michael Lewis Schmitt II was born to Karol and Michael Schmitt in Garfield Heights, Ohio, on August 28, 1970. Mike grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania where he and his brother, Erik, road endless miles on their bikes and made their neighbors crazy with their antics.
In the 1990's, he moved to Colorado, starting in Colorado Springs and eventually landing in Summit County, Colorado. He took up snowboarding, rock climbing, ice climbing and white water kayaking. All of these activities lead him to join the Summit County Rescue group in the late 90's where he eventually became a team leader, the liaison officer for the team, and met his future wife, Julie Scott.
Their first child Natalie was born on December 31, 2003. At that time, Mike was working as an electrician, but was becoming increasingly interested in the medical side of SAR. He became an EMT and worked at Keystone as a tech and eventually worked Ambulance for Grand County EMS. The family moved to Frisco in the fall of 2006 and Cameron was born on March 20, 2008. Mike graduated from Nursing School in the first nursing class from Colorado Mountain College in May of 2009. Over the years Mike worked as a nurse in hospitals in Denver, Aspen, Leadville, and eventually Kremmling.
2020 brought it's own kind of stresses, but Mike made the most of it embarking on his great passion of lapidary and silversmithing, creating beautiful works of art that he continued to enjoy creating until he left us the morning of September 25th.
Mike is survived by his wife, Julie Scott, daughters, Natalie (19) and Cameron (15), his mother, Karol Schmitt and brother, Erik Schmitt, and let's not forget his devoted blue heeler, Little Sadie.
There will be a celebration of life for Mike on Sunday, October 22 from 2-5 at the Frisco Day Lodge at the base of the tubing hill in Frisco. All are welcome and invited to share their favorite memories of Mike.
