Michael Nirrengarten

Description

I am a post doctoral researcher at CY Cergy Paris University in the GEC lab.

My research topic is the deformation of rifted margin and their kinematic implications. In this frame, I'm working on different natural laboratories such as the southern North-Atlantic, the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, the Norwegian margin and the South China Sea rifted margins. My working strategy is to combine multidisciplinary data sets such as core data, geological maps, seismic section, potential field maps in order to unravel the extensional processes in 2D and integrate them in plate modelling. I participated to IODP (International Ocean Discovery Program) 367 and 368X as core describer onboard the Joides Resolution in the South China Sea to understand the parameters of breakup in marginal oceanic basin.

Tools

  • Plate modelling (GPlates software)

  • Structural interpretation of seismic sections

  • Core description

  • Potential field

  • GIS, data integration
