Books
My interest is what might broadly be called mathematics of physical systems. In my own work this has meant the mathematical structures that arise in the analysis of physical models: linear systems and operators on infinite-dimensional function spaces (functional analysis), continuum field theories (tensor analysis and multivariable calculus), the use of bounds and estimates through mathematical inequalities and interval analysis, and extremal formulations of physical laws through the calculus of variations.
Current writing projects
(1) Two different primers on mathematical systems theory, (2) an introduction to the theory of distributions with my colleague Dr Mark Viola, and (3) a new book on applied mathematics with Leonid Lebedev.
Latest completed projects

Lebedev), Mathematics and Mechanics of Solids, Vol 31 Issue 2, Feb 2026, pp 217–231. (2) The idea of convergence in mechanics (with L.P. Lebedev and V.A.
