My Philosophy for using Technology in education

In this twenty-first century that we presently live in, innovations in technology are numerous, ever more so since the pandemic. These new and improved technologies have not only opened our eyes to the dawn of a new era through the immense potential that it offers, but has strongly impacted/influenced our educational systems, designs, teaching approaches, and many more. It is my belief that As technology continues to evolve, it brings with it new opportunities and challenges for educators and students.

Technology is a potent tool that can positively support and transform education in many ways, from making it easier for instructors to create instructional materials that enable new ways of learning, to creating a worldwide reach by just connecting to class using your cell phone. Technology is undoubtedly having a significant impact on every aspect of our lives including our modern learning environments. The influence that technology has in our education, is shaping the way in which our students learn, the way in which our teachers deliver instructional materials and the way in which we design spaces for future learning opportunities.

I believe technology can be used to positively enhance the learning experience if used as additional reinforcement rather than a replacement for teaching. We all can agree that technology has enhanced the learning experience; but there needs to be guidance; someone who will facilitate and monitor learning in order to clear up misconceptions, limit distractions and keep students focused. As a future hospitality educator I find it very essential to keep up-to-date on new trends and information. Hence, I will always try to incorporate new innovations into my classroom and modify my approach to find the best ways to relate the material to my students.

It is my philosophy that the influences of technology use in education and its implications are numerous and never ending due to its ever changing evolution. Whilst technology is sometimes seen as a threat and has its limits, integrating it into our teaching practices and methods offers new ways for students to interact and engage with course content material, promotes innovative teaching techniques, expands opportunities for communication and collaboration, expands access to education, and many more. On the other hand, through the 21st century reliance on technology in education; there is increased distractions and social networking instead of learning, flawed/inaccurate assessment data of students true capabilities, extinction of good penmanship, and many more.

As a result, it is my firm belief that the integration/use of technology education will continue to advance and it is my responsibility to try as best as possible to guide, caution, and properly monitor myself as well as my students use of technology in the classroom as its drawbacks may well outweigh its advantages overtime.
