An Official MICCAI 2023 Tutorial
ABOUT
Recent advances in medical imaging promise to revolutionize healthcare research and delivery. However, cutting-edge technologies bring along a spectrum of ethical and social considerations, encompassing issues of fairness, legal intricacies, and the reliability of medical decision-making, among others. This tutorial invites you to think about how to mitigate these challenges to prevent harm and promote well-being.
In the first segment of this half-day tutorial, our guest speakers, Prof. Karim Lekadir, Prof. Laleh Seyyed-Kalantari, Prof. Vincent C. Müller, and Theresa Willem, will introduce innovative strategies from the computer sciences and humanities, designed to address the ethical and legal challenges of AI in medical imaging.
In the second part of our tutorial, we will delve into the concept of "model cards" (as introduced by Mitchell et al. in 2019). This method is a valuable tool for assessing and communicating the ethical implications of trained machine learning models. During a dynamic discussion centered around one model card of a medical imaging model, our participants will have the opportunity to engage in ethical reflections of their day-to-day technical encounters and learn how model cards can help substantiate their publications.
