Micah's Backpack is a local, nonprofit organization that seeks to address food insecurity among students in the Blacksburg community. Micah's Backpack currently works with 10 Blacksburg schools to offer 300 students healthy food every weekend during the academic year. This includes 5 elementary schools, 3 preschools, Blacksburg Middle School and Blacksburg High School. Every Friday, the nonprofit provides students in need with 6 balanced meals in addition to juice boxes, milk, and snacks. On Tuesday evenings, community volunteers join together to pack the backpacks at St. Michael's Lutheran Church.
