About Us

Mission Statement:

The purpose of the Miami Active Living Center is to provide a space for members of the community and surrounding area to participate in social and recreational activities to promote active and healthy lifestyles.

Origin Story:

The design and construction of the Miami Active Living Centre was initiated by the MALC Building Committee, a committee formed under the Miami and Area Foundation (MAF) after it had received a major donation from contributor Blair Sharpe with stipulations to spend it on a Project that benefits everyone in the community. Funds were matched by Federal and Provincial funding and other private donations from local businesses. Once construction had begun the MALC Operating Committee was formed and appointed as a committee by the RM of Thompson.

Administrator:

Stacey McElroy began working for the Blair Sharpe Active Living Centre in April 2023, a few months before it opened.

Stacey originates from Pilot Mound area and moved from Cartwright to Miami with her 4 boys - Parker, Aiden, Nick and Rory.   Parker attends the University of Ottawa studying the Classics, and Aiden attends Red River Polytechnic Institute studying Machine Learning (AI and Robotics).  Nick and Rory both attend school in Miami.

Stacey enjoys a variety of sports including snowboarding, swimming, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, running, cycling  and quadding and baseball when she can convince her boys to play with her.  She became interested in fitness and nutrition in 2021 and has lost 150 lbs since then.  She enjoys working out and being in the gym at the Blair Sharpe Miami Active Living Centre.
