Since we are completely staffed by volunteers, parents and community members are encouraged to find a way to volunteer their time! There are many volunteer opportunities with MHRA: Concessions Stand Volunteer, Coach or Assistant Coach, Umpires, or Board Member. If you are interested in helping, please contact the board at mhraboard@gmail.com or fill out the contact form!
If you would prefer to "help" through a monetary donation or team sponsorship you can donate HERE or look at our sponsorship opportunities HERE.
Your coaches will be in touch after registration ends and we have had our yearly coaches meeting. That is typically held in mid-April. Practices usually begin right after that, so expect a call or email from your coach with more information around the middle of April. Games will typically begin the second weekend of May. Please watch the website for more information.
A uniform shirt and hat are provided for each player, however, we ask that you purchase a pair of gray baseball pants for your players for pictures and games. Players 8U and up also will need a pair of rubber cleats for practice and games (no metal cleats). Community helmets and bats are also provided during games and practices, but you will need to provide a baseball/softball glove for your child. If you are uncomfortable with your child sharing items such as a helmet and/or bat you may provide those as well. A bat and glove sizing guide is available under the "Documents" tab on this site. All softball players 8U and up are also NOW REQUIRED (as of 2022) by the league to wear face shields/cages when playing in the infield. Please make sure all equipment is labeled with your child's name. We also recommend that your child comes to practices and games with a reusable water bottle.
Depends on your child's age:
Tee-Ball players only play and practice in Marquette Heights. All practices are held on Tuesday and Thursday nights at Independence Park on Field 1. Times will vary depending on your child's team.
Coach Pitch players and older will play all home games in Marquette Heights on various fields in Independence Park depending on the schedule and field availability. Away games are played in a variety of places depending on our opponent. MHRA is in the "Tremont Recreational League" so players will travel to and play against teams from areas such as Hopedale, Mackinaw, Hartsburg-Emden, Mason City, Lincoln, and Delevan. Some teams may also schedule games with various travel leagues and city leagues such as East Peoria and Morton. For directions to the various fields that we play at, click the link below:
As an instructional league, our goal is to teach your players the basics of the game and allow them to learn the game in a fun and casual environment.
During the early years of tee-ball, players focus on the fundamentals such as throwing, catching, and hitting the baseball. Players will also learn the basic rules and terminology used in the game of baseball and softball. Even in tee-ball, players will begin learning how to hit from a coach's pitch.
In 8U, players begin learning their positions on the field and honing their skills. The coach will continue to pitch the ball, but players will continue to play all other field positions and will rotate through each position.
In 10U and higher, players will begin learning to pitch and will play all field positions. Rules at this level become more strict and players will begin learning more advanced skills such as sliding, stealing bases, etc.
All MHRA coaches and assistant coaches are volunteers and are typically parents of a child on their team. Some coaches have more experience than others, but remember that all are trying their best no matter what their skill level is. Coach's are monitored by the MHRA Board of Directors. If you have questions or concerns about your coach or would like more information about how to become a coach with MHRA, please reach out to the MHRA Board for more information.
