Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Below are a collection of frequently asked questions regarding Mei Hachimoku's novels.
What order do I read the Four Seasons series in?
Any order! There's no real chronological timeline for them as they are their own contained stories and can be enjoyed separately. The most used read order is the release order, which is Summer -> Spring -> Autumn -> Winter. You can choose any order you want, since the only thing you'll miss out on by not reading in release order are small references to previous entries that don't have any impact on the story and purely serve as references fans of Mei Hachimoku will get.
Where is Winter?
Winter has been released! The Four Seasons Series is now fully complete, with An Endless Winter, A Broken Dreamland taking the final spot. You can read it here!
(I don't like it that much though...)
What will Mei Hachimoku's next book be about?
It's very likely to be a romance, however Hachimoku has written the Frieren prequel novels, which to my knowledge have sold well with good reviews, and wrote a short story for Is This How The World Will End? (which I would include on this website, but it was only sold at Bungaku Festival Tokyo so alas), so it's clear he has interest for other genres. He knows romance will sell well though, and he's definitely good at writing it, so don't bet too much on a genre switch!
Will his next book be a series or standalone?
It's hard to say, but I'm willing to bet it'll be a standalone book. He's written more standalones than series, but of course he could always break that. If he does write a series, I highly doubt it'll be very long, seeing as Mimosa was only five books.Â
When will his next book come out?
There's no dates given, however he's been talking about a manuscript for the past couple months, so he's definitely working on something! We don't know anything else, though... No genre, no synopsis, no characters, nothing! It appears it's in the final stages of being written, though, so there may be an announcement soon, for which I'll keep you updated!
"No matter how much I write, it never ends"
"The longest manuscript in history has been born"
Should I watch the Tunnel to Summer's movie adaptation instead of reading the novel?
Every person has their own opinion, however the main opinion amongst novel readers is that you should read the novel, not watch the movie. Characters are far more developed, plot points are more explored, and overall the story is much better written and more conclusive. If you've already watched the movie, give the novel a shot, as the amount of changes made in the movie almost makes it an entirely different story. You can download a PDF of the novel here.
Will there be a Wait For Me Yesterday in Spring/An Autumn in Amber, A Zero-Second Journey anime adaptation?
Nothing has been confirmed yet (as of 2025/02/24) so an adaptation is always possible. However, they do not have an adaptation as of now. Wait For Me Yesterday in Spring will most likely have a TV anime adaptation, as the story is better suited for that medium, and An Autumn in Amber, A Zero-Second Journey will most likely have a movie adaptation.
Will there be a Tunnel to Summer re-adaptation?
No. There is an extremely slim chance of Tunnel to Summer getting a re-adaptation. A fresh adaptation has only been done for very popular series, namely Fullmetal Alchemist and One Piece. Whilst Tunnel to Summer is moderately popular, it is no where near the popularity of those series, so a re-adaptation will not make much sense, especially if you look at it from the perspective of a company whose main objective is money over everything.
