- Present Teacher Clarity Goals
- What am I learning today? A process for combining research-based instructional strategies with technology tools to achieve standards-based learning. Follow up with how to best coach (and be coached) in a pupil-centric classroom.
- Why am I learning this? Knowing how to integrate technology into effective, evidence-based strategies to achieve curricular objectives is critical. Knowing how to coach and be coached in this process is important. The more we all know, the better.
- How will I know that I have learned this? I'll walk away with a clearer understanding of effective strategies, educational frameworks, and pupil-centric coaching (PCC).
- Examine the meaning of terms:
- Strategic Technology Integration: This is the introduction of technologies into instruction that relies on research-based strategies
- John Hattie's high-effect size (HES) instructional strategies (> .40 effect size)
- "We have no right to teach in a way that leads to students gaining less than d= 0.40 within a year." - John Hattie
- "One of the more difficult tasks is to convince teachers to change their methods of teaching. So many adopt one method and vary it through their career." - John Hattie, Visible Learning
- Pupil-centric coaching (PCC): This examines a tool for coaches and teachers to use that focuses on enhancing growth for staff from a students' perspective.
- "When schools lack a clearly articulated coaching model, confusion reigns and a precious resource is wasted.” - Diane Sweeney, EL Magazine
- "Effective coaching makes it easier for teachers to learn and implement new ideas. Indeed, without follow-up such as coaching, most professional learning will have little effect." -Jim Knight
- Explore action steps that make combining high-effect instructional strategies and web-based creativity/info-management tools easier through various project activities. The action steps will address the following key concepts:
- Identification of curricular goals, strategies and skills students need to learn to be successful such as the TEKS, and the ISTE Standards for Students
- Identification of HES instructional strategies that align to the surface, deep, and/or transfer learning levels needed for a lesson or series of lessons.
- Selection of one or more digital tools (e.g. G Suite EDU, EdPuzzle, Office 365, Minecraft) that enhance the HES instructional strategies. It is recommended you choose only ONE tool to start with until your students get familiar with it before introducing another.
- Develop a walkthrough of the lesson addressing how the class will proceed, how students will be assessed (e.g. Think-Pair-Share, RTRW, Jigsaw, Direct Instruction) and how technology will be introduced and used.
- Put a recursive reflection process in place to check your students' and your own progress towards that is pupil-centric.
- Reflect on the process
