Malang English Vocational Teachers Association English Competition (MEVTA ECON) is an annual event organized by the 'MGMP Bahasa Inggris SMK Kota Malang.' The MEVTA ECON activities for this year are designed with a strong focus on student participation, aiming to showcase their creativity and proficiency in the use of the English language. The overarching theme for this year's event is "Nurturing 5.0 Students," emphasizing the holistic development of students in the fifth industrial revolution era.
The event comprises four competitions that provide students with diverse platforms to exhibit their English language skills. These competitions include the Critical Thinking Challenge, Video Competition, Poster Design, and TikTok Challenge. Each competition caters to different aspects of language proficiency and creative expression.
MEVTA ECON 2023's student-centered approach fosters an environment where participants can not only compete but also learn and grow through their engagement in these diverse competitions. By embracing the theme of "Nurturing 5.0 Students," the event aims to prepare students for the challenges and opportunities of the fifth industrial revolution, emphasizing the importance of well-rounded development in the English language.
CRITICAL THINKING CHALLENGE
General Rules:
The competition is open to vocational high school students from Kota Malang.
Each vocational institution can send up to 3 delegate teams, with each delegate team consisting of 3 members.
The presentation must be delivered in English
The competition will be divided into two rounds: the preliminary and final rounds.
Preliminary Round:
Participants choose one of the provided cases to solve. They must present their solution in a PowerPoint presentation.
Participants create a presentation video lasting between 5-8 minutes, showcasing their solution using the PowerPoint presentation.
The presentation video must display the slides presentation along with the presenters.
Participants upload their presentation video to their YouTube account.
Participants must complete and submit a submission form provided by the committee.
A panel of judges will evaluate the presentation videos, and six participants or teams will be selected to advance to the final round.
Final Round:
The participants selected to advance to the final round will compete at a location to be decided by the committee.
In the final round, participants will engage in on-site problem solving. They will have 60 minutes to solve a problem and create a PowerPoint presentation.
The participants, chosen randomly, will have a maximum of 8 minutes to present their results.

With the advance of technology today, news travel fast across the globe at the speed of light. As a result, people tend to ignore the source of information and forget that they need to question its validity.
What would you do to prevent yourself and people around you from falling into hoaxes?
Environment
Heavy rain for approximately 1.5 hours resulted in waterlogged areas in several spots in Malang city, East Java, on Saturday (25/11/2023). Dozens of houses were flooded up to two meters high. (Kompas.id). Despite various attempts that the local government have made, including rebuilding the water tunnel and drain cleaning, regular floods in Malang is inevitable once the rainy season comes.
In your opinion, what are other possibilities that we can do to prevent the flood from happening?
Good health and well being
In recent years, younger people tend to ignore their daily diet and lifestyle. Consequently, most youngsters these days easily suffer from obesity, diabetes, and other health problems. As a student, what would you do to raise awareness about the importance of keeping fit and healthy?

Bullying at school refers to the persistent and harmful behaviour that involves the intentional targeting, aggression, or harassment of one or more students by their peers. This behaviour may take various forms, including verbal, physical, social, or cyberbullying.

Nationalism
In the era of globalization where young generation overly adoring the culture of other countries instead of being proud about their own, what kinds of actions would you suggest to do to respond to this trend?

The rapid growing of electronic commerce (e-commerce) has shifted the way people shop. The comfort and effectiveness of online shopping has made it the better choice for almost everyone. This situation has caused significant decrease in the income of micro/local business.
What kinds of marketing strategies that you would do to increase the sale of these businesses?

VIDEO COMPETITION
General Rules:
The competition is open to vocational high school students from Kota Malang.
Each vocational institution can send up to 3 delegate teams. Each delegate team should consist of 2-3 members.
This competition will be conducted through YouTube video submissions. After registering, participants will receive a submission link and MGMP logo from the organizing committee to upload their videos.
Each video must also feature and promote a "hidden gem" or less-known local tourism destination within Malang Raya. The aim is to showcase the unique and unexplored aspects of the city.
Videos should be between 5 to 7 minutes in length. Videos exceeding this duration may be disqualified.
Participants must appear in the video, though just for a few seconds. They should wear proper clothes.
The story narration must be mixed between in-front-of-camera speaking and voice-over.
The video must include the MGMP logo on the left side of the video.
The video submitted must be in 720p (HD) resolution.
All video content, including visuals and music, should be original or used with proper licensing and attribution. Any copyrighted material used without permission may lead to disqualification.
The videos must be in English. There is no requirement for subtitles in this case, as the language of the video is English.
Scoring Rubric:
The competition will be evaluated based on the following criteria, each with a maximum of 10 points:
Creativity and Originality (20 points): Are the ideas and execution of the video unique and creative? Does it stand out from the rest in terms of presentation and storytelling?
Local Tourism Destination Promotion (15 points): How effectively does the video showcase the chosen local hidden gem of Kota Malang? Does it inspire the audience to visit and explore the destination?
Production Quality (15 points): This criterion considers the overall quality of the video, including videography, audio quality, editing, and any special effects. A well-produced video with clear visuals and audio will score higher.
Engagement and Impact (15 points): How engaging and emotionally impactful is the video? Does it connect with the viewers and leave a lasting impression?
Message Clarity (15 points): Is the message of the video clear and concise? Can viewers easily understand and relate to the content presented?
Overall Presentation (10 points): How well does the video flow as a complete package? Is it well-paced, organized, and structured in a way that captivates the audience?
Overall Impression (10 points): Judges will evaluate the overall impact and impression of the video, taking into account the collective effect of all the above criteria.

POSTER DESIGN COMPETITION
General rules:
The competition is open to vocational high school students from Kota Malang
Each vocational institution can send up to 3 delegates. This is an individual competition.
The registration starts on December 1, 2023 to December 15, 2023. The registration fee is 35K.
Participants can choose one of the following topics and break it down into smaller units to create their posters:
Technology
Environment
Good health and well-being
Bullying
Nationalism
Entrepreneurship
The poster must be an original creation by the participant.
The poster must be in English.
The size of the poster should be 210 mm in width and 297 mm in height (A4 paper size).
The poster mustn’t offend or mention any ethnics, races and religions.
Participants must submit their posters through Google Form submission. The submission link will be given after registering.
Participants must post their posters on their Instagram accounts and tag the MGMP's Instagram account @mgmphahasainggrissmkkotamalang. Participants must add captions that include MEVTAECON2023_NAME_SCHOOL_POSTER’S TITLE, some descriptions and reasons for choosing the topic. Participants must add hashtags #MEVTAECON2023 #POSTERDESIGNMEVTAECON2023. Participants mustn’t use a private Instagram account.
The poster submission deadline is on January 15, 2024. Late submissions will not be accepted.
The judging periode will be on January 16 - 20, 2024.
The winners will be announced on January 25, 2024.
Judges' decisions cannot be changed.

TIKTOK VIDEO COMPETITION
General Rules:
The competition is open to vocational high school students from Kota Malang.
Each vocational institution can send up to 3 individual delegates.
The competition will be conducted through TikTok video submissions.
After registering, participants will receive a submission link from the organizing committee to upload their video.
Each video must feature functional English.
ideos should be between 45 seconds to 3 minutes in length. Videos exceeding this duration may be disqualified.
Participants must appear in the video and should wear appropriate attire.
The story narration must be in front of the camera speaking.
All video content, including visuals and music, should be original.
The videos must be in English. There is no requirement for subtitles as the language of the video is English.
