Indian Youth Delegation to the Maldives

I was fortunate to be part of the first India-Maldives Youth Exchange program - (blog - travel log) - with delegates from India's top institutions like IITs, IIMs, AIIMS, NIFT and with diverse backgrounds like Information Technology, Social Media Strategists, National Awardees, NGO founders, Republic Day Participants, National Level Sports persons, beauty pageant winners and budding youth leaders. This yearly youth exchange program is organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt of India, to promote exchange of ideas, values and culture between India and other countries. I had the pleasure of meeting dozens of people excelling in many different walks of life and I cherish this experience a lot.

Despite the deceptively boring thumbnail, this is an amazing video by Siraj Rafi and Amim Fatmi that captured our 7 day tour of the island nation.

See if you can spot me in it! - Hint : Right here! :)

IITD OnAir

I recognized the need for documenting the wide variety of opportunities IIT Delhi has to offer it's students and founded it's official media broadcasting organization under the guidance of the Dean of Student Affairs. The process took around two years and I had to cross several bureaucratic hurdles to get the required approvals and funding (~$30000). The recording studio was constructed over the summer of 2016 and the equipment was acquired during my tenure as the first station manager. I led a team of 11 members and I'm still in touch with them to help keep the essence of the body preserved.

I spent countless hours in my last three semesters in establishing this project and I really hope this would help future students in finding their way through their undergrad degree and life itself. Linked below are two of our popular videos.

Here's short tour of my alma mater shot entirely by the 2019 team!

Olympiads and Fellowships

My interests in basic mathematics and sciences started from an early age. Over the course of my schooling I've been able to qualify the Indian Nation Mathematics, Chemistry and Astronomy Olympiads which are the precursors to the International versions of these. Here are a few highlights from each one of them.

  • Indian National Mathematics Olympiad, 2011- I qualified the Regional Mathematics Olympiad on my first attempt in the 9th grade under the guidance of Prof. K. C. Prasad. I went on to clear the Indian National Mathematics Olympiad in the 10th grade, coming in at number 10 nationally. I attended the training and selection camp for the prestigious International Mathematics Olympiad over the summer of 2011. However, I did not return for subsequent training camps to focus more on my engineering aspirations.

  • Indian National Chemistry Olympiad, 2013 - Organic Chemistry is beautiful! I nearly made the team to Moscow on this one, coming in at number 5. Damn you chromatography!

  • Indian National Astronomy Olympiad, 2013 - Honestly, I have zero clue on how and why I ranked top 40 in this one. I have had a love for the stars and our solar system since I was a kid. That might have helped me a bit. I didn't go to the selection camp for the Indian team as the dates were very close to IIT-JEE Advanced 2013, which was my priority.

  • IGNOU-UNESCO Science Olympiad, 2011 - This was one Olympiad in which I did actually go to the International stage and stood 4th in South Asia. However, I consider the other three to be bigger achievements.

Apart from competing for spot in the Indian Olympiad teams, I've also been a fellow of two national fellowships for academic excellence.

  • The KVPY Fellowship in Basic Sciences - For students in 11th and 12th who display talent and aptitude for research in a series of exams and interviews.

  • The NTSE Fellowship - For students in 8th grade who display academic excellence in Math, Science, Social Science, Mental Ability, GK and English through a series of exams and interviews.

Also, I've ranked 1st nationally in private exams such as the NSTSE (7th grade) and Unified Cyber Olympiad (11th grade). That means free Laptops and PCs!
