Class – VI-VIII


Library Orientation

Children will be able to know the usage of the library.

Orientation program conducted by the librarian for the students of class VI in April to make them aware of the functioning of the library, Importance of Library, and make them familiar with arrangement of the Books.


Story Weaving

Thinking and Creativity of writing will be developed.

Keywords will be given to the students and with the help of these words; students ask to make their own story. 


Book Care Bookmark

 Students will be able to develop creativity and Caring of Books.

Related stationery material will be provided to the students like chart paper, colour pens, etc. to make Bookmarks.


Book Care True /False

Students will be able to develop creativity and Caring of Books.

Some Good and Bad statements will be written at the bottom of the half-page. Students will cut these statements and pest on the True side or False side. Example -


Checkout Procedure for Books

Student will be able to know the steps of checkout procedure of the books in library

The checkout procedure of the book will be written on the page in an unarranged manner then the student will arrange the steps in sequence.  Example- 

 


Slogan Writing Competition

Thinking and Creativity of writing will be developed.

Related stationery material will be provided to students like chart paper, colour pens, etc. to write Slogans on different themes/topics. Winner should be awarded.


Know the Parts of the Book

Students will be able to know the parts of the books

An outlined Performa will be given to the students they will identify the part of the book and write the title, name of author, publisher, price, and illustrator at the proper place. They will design the cover of the book. Example-


Building the story Pyramid


Step by step development of making a story.

Small pictorial books will be given to the students after reading that they will make a pyramid of the story charts with the main character at the top then add a word to each line below it.  

Each of the students is given a book, like a small mostly pictorial in nature along with some text. The student reads it and later is given a worksheet to describe the book in the form of a pyramid.

Line 1 — one word, stating the name of the main character

Line 2 — two words, describing the main character

Line 3 — three words, describing the setting

Line 4 — four words, stating the problem

Line 5 — five words, describing one event

Line 6 — six words, describing a second event

Line 7 — seven words, describing the third event

Line 8 — eight words, stating the solution to the problem

Story Telling

Communication skills and confidence to address the gathering will improve.

Student will tell the story orally to the Class in the presence of the Librarian 


Read aloud

Reading habits and Pronunciation will improve.

Only 01 student will read a story loudly in the presence of the Librarian


Know your India

Children will be able to know about India like the Capital of States, Indian Rivers, Mountains, Different Languages and Dances, Crops, etc. Research attitudes will be developed.

Students will ask to gather information about all the states from books, encyclopedia, internet, atlas, etc and the student will write this information in his/her notebook. 


Improve your General Knowledge



Brain Treasure.

Small Books/ Pictorial Books of general knowledge, newspaper, yearbook, etc will be given to the students and ask them to learn/write a given topic like Capital of States, Name of Rivers, Name of Currencies, Name of Historical Monuments, etc. then they will discuss these topics in Library.


Story from picture

1.      Critical thinking

One or two pictures of the scene will be provided to the students and will ask them to make their own stories based on given pictures. 


Find the word of the day

Enhancement of vocabulary.

Students will note down the difficult words  in their notebook from the magazines / Books which will be provided by the Library in their period.


Know the Dictionary

1.      Enhancement of vocabulary

2.      Student will be able to know the method of use of the dictionary

Class will be divided into 5 or 6 groups then Dictionaries will be provided to the groups. A word will be given to all groups and ask them to find it in the dictionary quickly. The group which takes less time to find this word will be the winner. 


Book Talk

Thinking and confidence will improve

The book talk will be organized in the Library period in which the students will discuss the book read by them. They will talk about the title, kind of book, author, brief outline of the story, and different views of the story.


Vote your favourite Character

Students will be able to know the qualities of  his/her favorite character

2 or 3 pictures of favorite characters of the students will be shown to the children and ask them to describe the character. 


Glad Books, Sad Books

Caring of the library books/ personal books

The books which are properly maintained by the students are glad books and the books which are not in a proper condition are sad books. This discrimination can be made aware to the student which will help them to make proper use of the books. 


Scrap Document

Documentation and Research attitude will be develop

Topics will be given to the students on the particular theme according to their class. Students can collect articles from different documents and paste them in the scrapbook. 


Introduction to Dictionary Skills

Students will be able to know the steps to use a dictionary.

After the video, some questions may be asked to the students.


Collect New Words

Have each student keep a notebook of new words. This is a nice activity to do daily or a few times a week. It is also good for handwriting practice. Each day, each student finds a word in the dictionary that he does not know. He then writes the word, the definition, and an original sentence using the word in his notebook. An illustration would make a nice addition. Have students share their words with at least one other person.


Play Speed Word Search

Vocabulary enhance

Give each student or pair of students a dictionary. When you call out a word, the student(s) must find the word as quickly as possible. The first person to call out the correct page number wins the round. This would be a good one to do in teams; everyone has his or her dictionary, but the winner wins a point for the whole team rather than individually


Library Scavenger Hunt

Students will be able to know about the available books in the Library.

Students will be motivated to read books.

A format will be given to the students in which they will write the title of different types of books like- Science Book, Fairy tale books, Book about Clock, Space, Ocean, Mountain, Stars, Adventure, Inventions, Games, Environment.

Library Catalogue may be used for this purpose.


My Reading List/wish List

Students will be motivated to read more books as per his/ her choice.

She/he can maintain the record of favourite books.

A format will be given to the students in which they will write the title of such books which they have read or want to read


40 Book Challenge

Students will be able to classify the books into different subjects like Fiction Book, Non- fiction books, Science Fiction Book, Adventure Book, Poetry, etc.

Students will be motivated to read books.

A format will be given to the students in which they will write the title of different types of books like Fiction Book, Non- fiction book, Science Fiction Book, Adventure Book, Poetry, etc.

Students can search the books from the catalog of the Library.


Best Reader Award / Best Class Library Award

Students will be motivated to use the library properly.

Librarians will maintain the record of the utilization of the library by the students with the help of e-granthalaya software. This award should be given to the students who qualitatively read and utilized books and libraries regularly.


Celebrations/ Exhibitions of Important Days, Weeks, Birth Day of famous personalities

Students will be able to enhance their knowledge about celebrated Days, Weeks, and famous personalities.

She/ He will motivate to read.

Celebrations and Exhibitions of the Important days, Weeks, BirthDays of famous personalities will be conducted in the library. Related magazines/ books will be displayed on these occasions. All the students will participate in this program.
