How to Wear Headbands in Multiple Ways - A Complete Guide

One of the most popular hair trends has been headbands. With so many options, there truly is something for everyone. Occasionally, when new trends emerge, I either consciously tell myself "no way that's happening" or eventually go on board. I vowed that this would be the trend that was a resounding no. But after seeing Madewell release this casual one, I felt compelled to give it a try. Well, right.

One of the problems, in my opinion, is that every single one I've seen has been quite opulent. There are a ton of velvet ones—beaded, pearl-studded, and more. And I just don't really like wearing elaborate headbands. But if you are, don't worry because I've rounded up a variety of looks to try along with some styling advice today! and even a few for the more carefree, informal appearances that I favor. But also the ones that Blair Waldorf endorsed for a more uptown appearance.

How To Wear Headbands

The options for headband wear are truly unlimited because there are so many different styles. Take your hairstyle a level higher by channeling your inner Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl or taking some street style inspiration from fashion week. Use a headband with your untidy buns, pulled-back ponytails, and loose waves. Put a colorful embroidered or knotted headband on your preferred hairdo to give it a fresh, modern look. It's also a wonderful method to conceal updos that may need a little washing by adding some dry shampoo and a lovely headband.

Ways To Wear A Headband

CASUAL WITH SHORT HAIR

I like to separate my hair down the center, leaving a few pieces for framing my face. This significantly differs from the method we used to utilize in the 1990s, which involved pushing all of your hair back before bumping it up. Recall those times? Put the headband on top of your head, leaving the front a little hairy. It's actually a simple and laid-back way to wear these in-vogue hair ornaments right now. This looks fantastic on short, straight, or curly hair.

DROPPED BACK

This shape is dominated by the central section, giving it a sleek, contemporary, and chic appearance. A dramatic headband worn with a low bun may steal the show! This just screams holiday party or fashion week to me. It is incredibly trendy, stylish, and sleek. To really step it up a notch, I really enjoy this with a tied headband or one that is embroidered. The Blair-styled emerald headband is the ideal accessory for the season!

WITHOUT A CLEAN BUN

The best-looking undone look is a combination of both, with a few pieces in front and unruly waves pulled back. I also kind of adore this hefty velvet headpiece with braids. I'd never be able to pull it off, though. A few designers, like the ones below by Jennifer Behr, helped popularize these headbands. This is an excellent, reasonably priced one. The cushioned pearl ones from Lele Sadoughi are also quite well-liked. If you don't want to spend a lot of money, these are also a more reasonable alternative.

A statement headband and glam hair

You may step up that appearance with a glam style, much like how I wore my hair down and accessorized with a headband. Simply create large, voluminous waves, and wear a more glam headband with this look. However, there are many beautiful gold headbands with elaborate designs that can be worn to formal occasions. Add stunning pearls, gold accents, and rhinestones for an utterly glitzy look.
