At the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on April 14, 2025 a decision was made to establish the Merivale Gardens Neighbourhood Watch (MGNW) program.
“Neighbourhood Watch" is a program to help neighbours watch out for neighbours. It aims to get citizens involved in discouraging and preventing crime at the local level. The ultimate success of Neighbourhood Watch depends largely on a commitment to cooperation between area residents and the police - and more importantly, between residents themselves.” Neighborhood Watch counts on citizens to organize themselves and work with law enforcement to keep a trained eye and ear on their communities, while demonstrating their presence at all times of day and night.
Any suspicious activity you report, will immediately be reported to our neighbours. Our Neighbourhood watch coordinator will also liaise with the Ottawa Police Services concerning suspicions activity.
We are asking you if we can add your name to the neighbourhood watch contact list. The information we collect will remain only with the President, Jerry Firoi and Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator, Jim Smith.
We would also like to Identifying First Aid/CPR-trained residents within our neighborhood as this enhances community safety and preparedness during emergencies such the past Derecho. This information can be used to quickly locate trained individuals to assist with immediate care until professional help arrives, potentially saving lives.
