Message from the President

August was another busy month for MFSCH—and a wonderful reminder that our skating community continues to move forward!

Our skaters represented Memorial FSC of Houston at competitions across the country, including Glacier Falls Summer Classic, Cranberry Cup International, National Showcase, Cranberry Open, PNIC Championship, and Skate Seattle. Congratulations to all of our skaters who competed this month, and thank you to the coaches and families who traveled with them and supported them along the way.

August 29 was an especially busy day for the Club. We hosted a successful in-person test session, providing our skaters an opportunity to continue progressing through the U.S. Figure Skating testing structure. That same day, skaters auditioned for the 15th Annual Nutcracker on Ice!

September brings another full month of competition, Nutcracker preparations and opportunities to support one another.

Thank you for continuing to make MFSCH a special skating community. We are so glad you are here!

Congratulations to all of the skaters who participated in our August 29 in-person U.S. Figure Skating test session! There were 29 tests taken, and a 97% pass rate!

A special thank-you goes to our test chair Triniti Brown, U.S. Figure Skating officials, coaches, volunteers and everyone who helped organize the session. And congratulations to our skaters on the tests passed and milestones achieved!

👑 2026 Nutcracker on Ice

Thank you to all of our skaters who auditioned and to the coaches and volunteers who helped make the day a success.

For 15 years, Nutcracker on Ice has brought together skaters of all ages and levels for a unique holiday tradition filled with skating, performance, friendships and memories.

We are thrilled to continue the tradition for one more Nutcracker!

Now the fun begins!

Watch your email for weekly communications-- rehearsal schedules, volunteer opportunities and additional show information.

Saturday, September 19th - Rehearsals begin

Groups will rehearse Saturdays between 9:15-11:45 AM

Solos, Duets and Trios will be scheduled with specific choreographers during Freestyle time.

October 1st – Sales Open - Sweatshirts, Pictures, Video, Commemorative Pins, Commemorative Program, Flower Bouquets

2nd week of November - Tickets sales open

Friday, December 4 - Dress Rehearsal

Saturday, December 5 - Show Date

🤝Community Connection

USFS has approved the MFSCH sanction submitted for the Rice Intercollegiate Competition, Space City Skate to be held 2/5/2027-2/7/2027. The event will be held at Sugar Land Ice & Sports Center. Memorial FSCH is assisting the club at Rice University as part of the Intercollegiate Series. Please reach out to Lexi Otero, Competition Chair with questions about Collegiate Skating! ✅Did You Know

U.S. Figure Skating continues to see growth across many areas of our sport.

At the 2026 Impact Summit, U.S. Figure Skating reported increases in overall membership, Learn to Skate USA participation, National Qualifying Series entries and participation at the U.S. Adult Figure Skating Championships.
More skaters are finding ways to participate in the sport—from Learn to Skate and recreational skating to qualifying competition, Showcase, Theatre on Ice, synchronized skating, adult skating and more.

We love seeing MFSCH members participating in so many of these different pathways!

The international figure skating season has begun! - Team USA Season Is Underway!

Team USA athletes are already competing internationally through the ISU Junior Grand Prix and Challenger Series, beginning the journey toward the 2027 U.S. Championships and the remainder of the international season.
MFSCH members can follow Team USA assignments, results and competition coverage throughout the season through the U.S. Figure Skating website.
And, as always, we are especially proud when skaters with Houston connections take the ice on the national and international stage.

A New National Showcase Series Is Coming

Following tremendous growth in Showcase skating, U.S. Figure Skating is launching an inaugural National Showcase Series for the 2026–27 season.
The new series will run from October 1, 2026 through June 6, 2027, creating a season-long qualifying pathway to National Showcase.
Skaters will compete within Eastern, Midwestern and Pacific Coast sections, with rankings maintained by level and category.
The six qualifying categories will be: Emotional Performance, Lyrical Pop, Character Performance, Comedic Impressions, Choreographic Artistry, Theme
Skaters will compete within the Eastern, Midwestern and Pacific Coast sections and earn rankings within their level and category.
Athletes will compete in a minimum of two and maximum of four designated Series competitions, with their top two scores averaged toward the standings.
U.S. Figure Skating plans to release the complete list of participating competitions and updated minimum-score requirements on September 1.
This is an exciting development for one of the fastest-growing areas of figure skating—and another competitive pathway for MFSCH skaters to explore!

We look forward to seeing our skaters explore this growing competitive pathway!
