Message from the President

November is here, and suddenly everything seems to be happening at once!

Our competitive skaters have wrapped up the National Qualifying Series, and we have nine MFSCH skaters advancing to the 2027 Midwestern Sectional Singles Final! What an accomplishment! Behind every qualification are countless hours of practice, early mornings, dedicated coaches, supportive families, and a whole lot of determination. We are incredibly proud of these skaters and look forward to celebrating them at our November 6 Exhibition & Send-Off Party.

Meanwhile, Nutcracker rehearsals are in full swing. Costumes are coming together, choreography is taking shape, and somehow, amid the chaos of crowded freestyles and Saturday morning rehearsals, the magic happens. You may have noticed my expression on Saturday mornings--it’s pure joy as I watch our skaters prepare.

And this year is different.

We have just a few weeks remaining at Memorial City. For so many of us, this rink has been where friendships began, skaters spent countless hours together, and where we celebrated accomplishments both big and small.  As we prepare for our final Nutcracker on Ice at Memorial City, I hope everyone will find a way to participate. Come to the show, volunteer, purchase an ad, contribute to our auction, buy flowers or other merchandise, or simply cheer from the seats. Every bit of participation helps make this final production special.

And we're not quite finished! On December 12, we'll gather for one more morning of Holiday Exhibitions before the rink closes. I hope we'll fill the ice with skaters of every age and level, celebrating the joy of skating together.

While our current home rink may be closing, our club is not. MFSCH will continue to support our skaters, celebrate their achievements, and create opportunities for our skating community to stay connected.  The Houston Ice Sports Coalition is beginning a first round of fundraising to progress a rink project in our area.  Please check out the giant mural near the fireplace and the HoustonISC.org website.  Consider donating, and sharing the website with your communities.

A rink is where we skate. A club is where we belong.

Let's make these final weeks together at Memorial City something we'll remember with smiles.

Warm regards,

Wendy Barnard
