Message from the President
I got goosebumps during Nutcracker auditions. They were slightly different from the goosebumps I get at Memorial Stadium during a Texas game—but honestly, not that different. It’s the energy and excitement of a group of people coming together for something they love. Watching the skaters fill the ice, seeing the conga line forming behind Nicole, and realizing that another Nutcracker season was officially beginning made my heart happy.
Now the choreography has started. Whether it's freestyles or Saturday mornings, groups are rehearsing in every available corner, music playing, coaches choreographing, skaters trying to remember where they’re supposed to be next. There is something about that controlled chaos that makes my heart smile.
And this year, I hope we all take it in.
This will be our last Nutcracker on Ice at Memorial City, a place where so many memories have been made. So whether you are on the ice, watching from the boards, driving a skater to practice, or helping behind the scenes, enjoy the experience. Talk to each other. Cheer for each other. Get to know someone you don’t already know. Let’s make this last Nutcracker at Memorial City the best one ever.
And please be part of it! We need adult volunteers to help with the beverage/bar, flower table and curtain bouncing during the shows. Volunteer for a show, split a role with a friend, or grab another skating parent and do it together. https://forms.gle/AqcupH22inR3omsb7
Of course, the Nutcracker isn’t the only thing happening. The annual Halloween party is next, October 30th. This is one of those wonderfully busy times of year. Our skaters have been busy competing in Austin, Skate Houston, Chicago and Georgia. My dance partner was running Peach—and texting me results of our amazing MFSCH skaters. I'm grateful for the club experience.
There is a lot happening at the rink right now. Take it in. Enjoy the energy. Be part of it.
It’s going to be a Fall to remember.
Warm regards,
Wendy Barnard
