Message from the President

Welcome to the new club year!

June was another busy month for us.  Our skaters represented the club at Skate Dallas, continuing the tradition of excellence that has long defined Memorial FSC of Houston. We also held our Annual General Membership Meeting. Thank you for attending, participating, asking thoughtful questions, and continuing your commitment to our club, which reaffirmed that we have a community of families, skaters, coaches, and volunteers who care deeply about one another and about the future of skating in Houston.

Our Senior Send-Off Exhibition and Celebration is my favorite club event each year, and this year was especially memorable. We honored eight graduated seniors and watched a slideshow that went back through the years and reminded us that Memorial City has been far more than an ice rink. All of our seniors took their first skating tests as MFSCH members.  They grew up together, in a club where lifelong friendships were formed, confidence was built, dreams were pursued, and we watched them grow into remarkable young adults. We are incredibly proud of each of our seniors and cannot wait to see where life takes them next.

We also celebrated our HITS athletes with an energetic send-off before the U.S. Figure Skating Theatre on Ice National Championships. We couldn't be prouder of their accomplishments! All three teams returned home as Pewter Medalists, an outstanding achievement that reflects months of dedication, teamwork, and creativity. The excitement continues in July as we recognize six MFSCH skaters who qualified for Excel National Finals. Please join us on Saturday, July 11, for their exhibition skates followed by refreshments as we celebrate their hard work and wish them the very best as they represent our club on the national stage.

As many of you know, July 31 marks the scheduled closure of Memorial City Ice Rink. While this chapter will be difficult for all of us, it is not the end of our story. Many dedicated volunteers and community leaders are actively exploring opportunities to preserve and expand ice sports in the Memorial West Houston area through future rink development projects. There is much work ahead, but there is also reason for hope. We look forward to sharing updates as those efforts continue to develop.

As we begin another membership year, thank you for believing in our club and in one another. If you haven't already renewed your membership, please consider doing so today.  We encourage you to join as either a primary or secondary club member to keep our skating family together. A rink is where we skate. A club is where we belong. Thank you for helping preserve the community we have built together.

Here's to new beginnings, continued success, and an exciting year ahead.

Warm regards,

Wendy Barnard
