Rolling Admissions. Begin your studies with one of the four foundational courses.
Overview
Each of the following five Somatic Theory Courses are necessary to meet the graduation requirements of the Moving For Life Certified Instructor (MFLCI) training.
It is ideal that you complete at least two of these courses before you begin one of the certification programs, or one of the intensive pedagogy or somatic movement workshops affiliated with them. It is typical to take the additional required Theory courses concurrently with training to become a MFLCI.
These trainings provide some of the most highly regarded somatic fitness and health equity training in the world. You gain applied knowledge and practice as it relates to movement education, coaching and somatic therapy, and emotional expression. Prior dance or fitness experience allows you to expedite your studies. The certification also prepare you for the ISMETA professional designation of Registered Somatic Dance Educator if you have additional life experience and have specifically gotten credited studies in dance and dance pedagogy in a college or university.
Once we receive an application, a faculty member can advise you on your readiness for this focus. if you are ready for the specific program based on your previous experience. Getting your free application submitted is a perfect way to find out if your prior studies qualify or to get guidance if you have not taken these exact courses.
Descriptions for each of the five Theory courses can be found below.
Please note that It is assumed that you have studied physical anatomy; either an academic or an experiential anatomy course. If you haven’t studied experiential or embodied anatomy you are expected to join the Dynamic Embodiment Somatic Movement (DESM) series moving from the core of the body outward to the limbs over 3 months learning new movement coordination that also serve as habit breakers.
