The Northwest Yearly Meeting Board of Youth and Young Adults has chosen to partner with Newberg Friends Church to support the Spring Break youth and family service trip to La Mision Mexico <Spring Break 2026>

Enable youth and families experience a cultural life changing service trip in a Christ pleasing environment
Drive down I-5, Cross the boarder into Mexico, Then Drive 1 more hour.
Vehicle Insurance required through Baja Bound
Passport required for over 16, birth certificates for under 16. As per US State DEPT, & HERE

Day 1 (Friday) Depart 12:00 Drive to Medford Friends for dinner
Day 1 (saturday): Drive to Bakersfield: (6:00am - 7:00pm)
Day 2 (Sunday): Bakersfield to La Mision ( 8:00am - 3:00pm)

Day 1(Mon): Service project
Day 2(Tues): Service project
Day 3(Wed): Service project
Day 4(thurs): Service project
Travel Back
Day 1(fri): Drive La Mision -> Bakersfield CA. Depart La Mision 9:00 am, Cross into the US 1:00 pm Arrive to Sacramento at 9:00pm
Day 2(sat): Drive Sacramento to Newberg. Depart Sacramento 7:30 am, arrive Newberg 6:00pm
Costs will be approx $700 per person. There will be ample opportunities for church fundraising, individual fundraising and scholarships. Do not let the costs hinder your service trip!

Clothes: Mexico in the spring will be like Oregon in the spring just a few degrees warmer. It could be nice, beautiful and sunny the entire time or rain for a week. Bring clothes to be ready for the rain. There will not be an opportunity to do laundry.
Sweatshirt and rain jacket (we’re near the beach, it does get cold here.)
Personal Toiletries (toothbrush and paste, deodorant, shampoo, brush, soap, etc.)
Towel and Washcloth
Bath robe (some of the rooms require you to walk outside to use the bathroom)
Work gloves, work shoes, flip flops

Reusable Water Bottle
Spending Money in low denominations ($5, $10 are best but nothing larger than $20) American money is easily accepted
I lived in Mexico for 4 years and did not even have a key to my front door.....
Maybe a better question to ask is how safe is Newberg?
Let us know, there are funds available to help you. If you have a heart to serve then I have a heart to get you down to Mexico.
Do not let funds get in the way of your trip.
Youth, Families, single people, older people, even kids. We have had children as young as 1 year old come down.....
Maybe, splitting a group adds additional complexity epecially for the first trip. But if you have a good reason why you are unable to drive let us know and we can discuss.

If you are unable to donate money SOME types of home goods may work. Since we are driving down we could only take high density items (Think rolled garbage bags, not toilet paper).
One thing we can not accept is used clothes, as it is illegal to take them across the boarder.
