My grandfather was an engineman on the Denver & Rio Grande Western R.R. and he and other crewmembers of a northbound narrow-gauge train witnessed the crash of a "flying saucer" north of Aztec. N.M. Upon arriving home in Durango, the trains terminus, he woke everyone at home to tell of the incident. The closure of Highway 550 North by the government to remove the object was reported in the Durango Herald newspaper and recalled by the paper in a regular feature called" 25 years ago today". I remember this article. The story goes that the "military" cut down every roadside pole from the crash site to White Sands to get it to that base.
