Not content with doing the installs for Windows 10 &11, I went all retro and did an installation for Windows 7
This is how it went.
Windows 7
First up I needed a fresh install of Windows 7 on a machine. I decided to recommission my Dell Precision M6500 laptop (a beast), @ 12 years old, and originally came with Windows 7, but had since been upgraded to W10, and was also dual booting linux. I had also carried out bios upgrades and doubled the ram to 8GB. I first wiped the SSD and 2nd hard drive using a PartedMagic iso. I then downloaded a W7 Ultimate SP1 iso (3gb) and burnt this to a DVD. Then went back in time as I ran through the W7 installation routine. Happy days. I had two genuine product keys for W7, but neither would authenticate online, so gave up and used DAZ loader to authenticate. I then copied over all my VXDIAG and VIDA installation files to the Downloads folder. I connected to the internet with cable.
VXDIAG
Installed the VXManager which I had previously downloaded from the VXDIAG website (as for W11), this went through without issue. I updated the programs and licences, then rebooted. (removed network cable, internet no longer needed)
VIDA
Install IE9 - my iso came with IE8, which is not enough for Vida, so I had previously downloaded an installer for IE9 which worked without issue.
Went through the Vida installation (as for W10 & W11), which also worked well, until after I rebooted again, and Vida Monitor ran on start up. Could not access port 80 which was needed for Java. After a bit of research I disabled HTTP.sys in Device Manager, rebooted and all was well, Vida up and running inside a minute of booting up. Entered the car VIN, connected up to car, all well and good.
(DEVICE MANAGER > SHOW HIDDEN > EXPAND NON PLUG AND PLAY > HTTP > DISABLE > REBOOT)
Laptop battery decided to pack up, so have had to buy another one of those.
Actually very pleased with the outcome. Despite my aversion to Windows, I really do not have to have anything to do with it (Windows) in order to run Vida, and do not have to bother with internet and thus all the attendant issues of W7 being insecure now it is obsolete/deprecated/etc. I also installed VCDS for the Audi, this also very happy on W7.
