This's Not A False Alarm

After seeing how the spark of the last uprising diminished due to weak by the media, but since the Blue Nile uprising on 16th Dec. and Atbra on the 19th, people were brewing with hopeful anticipation, after a long period of disillusion and despair.

These photos are a Visual narrative without claims of objectivity, as seen as a part of the event via a first-person narrative, showing some of the emotional weight that we invested through and during the uprising, they are documentation of the very important part of our nation history it is in a way a visual Diary.

In the last uprising the images of the protests were valued more than the protest itself and i can see the trend continuing today, with images of violence. I felt that these violent images in the media will only help to desensitize and deter people once more, they created a façade for other people to fall into the status quo. I wanted to combat this by showing images of life, hope and friendships, images of a diverse community; by doing so i wanted to help cement the values that helped start this revolution and Keep a visual memory of the events, that helped cement our stand against a dictatorship.

I wanted the viewer to see this monochrome images and paint his own colors, to wonder what if i was there what if my friends and family where there. I wanted the viewer to think about the violence that will come and wonder what happened to the people and places, what happened to me (the viewer).

From that vantage point back then, the protest didn’t seem of any particular interest but for us it was different. Considering again that point of view that’s here this is home this is us right here, everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, and the countless others, who stood there and was still standing demanding change.
