Quantum Learning Ensemble
Facilitated by three playful physicists: Dr. Carolyn Sealfon, Dr. Nick Gross, and Dr. Simone Hyater-Adams
In collaboration with improvscience
Are you curious to explore wacky and wonderful models that describe how the universe behaves at the tiniest scales? Do you enjoy connecting and sharing your curiosity with others? Have you ever felt intrigued to want to learn more about quantum physics?
Join us! 2025 is the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, so come explore some of why and how it can be so exciting. No prior background or familiarity with quantum physics needed, just curiosity!
In this two-month co-created learning adventure, facilitated by three physicists who also love arts, sharing, and co-creating, you’ll embark on a journey to connect your interests and curiosity with explorations of how the smallest parts of the world work. Starting October 9, we will meet weekly via zoom for five highly interactive, 90-minute synchronous sessions where we will build with each other’s curiosity and collectively explore aspects of the quantum world. The playful physicist facilitators will support you in coming up with a project idea that connects your interests and curiosity with quantum physics.
These sessions are scheduled for Thursdays, Oct. 9 - Nov. 6, 12:30-2:00pm ET (Boston/Toronto).
Then, during the rest of November, you will have the opportunity to work individually or collaboratively on an exciting project to connect quantum physics with your interests, supported by regular meetings with your co-creative physicist facilitators.
In early December, we will have a showcase celebration of your projects to share what you have learned and co-created, to which you may invite friends and family. There are no grades and no credits, just joyful explorations and meaningful sharing of what is learned together.
By the end of this two-month active-learning class (or adventure), you will have:
Experienced joyful “eureka” moments about how the subatomic world works
Formed new connections and friendships with other intellectually curious and creative folks
Feel more confident and engaged to discuss ideas in quantum physics
Practiced ways to apply evidence to evaluate scientific models and claims
Completed a project that demonstrates what you have learned, and that you feel proud about
To make the experience accessible, we offer a sliding scale.
Professional fee: $575 (helps support the endeavor)
Standard fee: $450
Reduced price (freelance / student / retired): $200
Pay-what-you-can: any amount (contact us!)
We offer a sliding scale of time commitment from 2 to 5 hours per week. Naturally, this is a curiosity-driven, grades-free course, and you will get out of it what you put in!
