What is copy and line editing?
Copy and line editing is an editorial service that emphasizes technical quality, encompassing grammar, punctuation, syntax, consistency, and the overall readability and flow of a novel or short story. Services for copy and line edits start at $0.009 per word and include three rounds: one for copy editing, one for line editing, and a proofreading session once the author has finished the copy and line edits. The delivery timeframe for the completed manuscript will vary from 14 to 21 business days for each round of copy and line edits and 5 to 7 days for proofreading. Anticipate a total of 33 to 49 days for a finalized manuscript.
Example: A 50,000-word manuscript will cost $450.
*I do not offer editorial services for tense, i.e., past or present.
What is a structural edit?
A structural edit, also referred to as a developmental edit, is a type of editorial service that focuses on organizing the key plot points of a novel or short story. Structural edits start at $0.008 per word and include in-line comments, providing guidance on where the eight plot points should be positioned within your story and feedback on dialogue, character development, pacing, and potential plot holes, all accompanied by a two-page editorial letter. A second round of edits is available if the revised manuscript is submitted within two weeks of the initial round's completion. Delivery of the finalized manuscript will take up to 14 days per round, so expect a total of up to 28 days for two rounds of edits.
Example: A 50,000-word manuscript will cost $400.
What is a proof edit?
This editorial service also referred to as proofreading, is intended for those who excel at identifying grammatical mistakes and simply require an extra set of eyes to catch any remaining errors. Proofreading services start at $0.005 per word and focus exclusively on changes related to spelling, grammar, and punctuation. No in-line comments will be provided. The delivery of the completed manuscript typically takes between 5 to 7 business days.
Example: A 50,000-word manuscript will cost $250.
If you are in the early stages of your manuscript and are not looking for editorial services but still want feedback, you may be looking for a beta reader. Beta reads start at 300 dollars per manuscript and include a two-page synopsis of how the book was perceived in terms of flow, readability, and organization, as well as in-line comments throughout the manuscript.
As Indie authors, we write, edit, format, and promote our work, and let's be honest, it's hard. Not only is it time-consuming and sometimes overwhelmingly difficult, but it's also expensive to buy the proper formatting software. Whether you just don't have the extra $150-$200 or you don't want to buy the software, Metal Rose Editorial Services offers formatting starting at $45 dollars per manuscript.
