Messages SMS : Text Messenger
Welcome to Messages SMS : Text Messenger ("App"), developed by DevLuminous ("Company", "Developer"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal data when you use our App or related services ("Services"). It also outlines your rights under applicable data protection laws, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR"), the California Consumer Privacy Act ("CCPA"), the Brazilian General Data Protection Law ("LGPD"), and Google Play policies. Our goal is to be transparent about our data practices and ensure your privacy is protected.
This Privacy Policy is an integral part of our End User License Agreement ("EULA"). Any capitalized terms not defined here have the meanings given in the EULA.
We limit our data collection strictly to what is necessary for delivering and enhancing core App functions, such as messaging, notifications, and local file management. The following sections specify the categories of information we gather and their intended operational uses.
Device configuration data
What We Receive: We obtain non-personal information related to your device, specifically its hardware composition, the version of its operating system (OS), and general system configuration details.
Our Use: This data is essential for App optimization, ensuring smooth performance across various hardware, diagnosing and resolving technical faults, and guaranteeing compatibility. For instance, it allows us to identify supported functionalities or process crash reports. This data remains on your device or is rendered anonymous before being shared with third-party analytical tools.
Network and Internet Access
What We Receive: The App requires access to the internet to function (e.g., for syncing, analytics, and serving advertisements). This may involve collecting details like an anonymized IP address or your current network type.
Our Use: Network access enables optional features like cloud synchronization (if enabled), facilitates the transmission of usage statistics for product improvement, and permits the delivery of ads. We explicitly do not monitor or record your web browsing history or sensitive internet activities.
Notification Access
What We Collect: The App may send notifications to your device, including details like message previews or reminders.
How We Use It: Notifications alert you to incoming messages or App updates, enhancing your experience. You can manage or disable them in your device settings at any time.
We prioritize your privacy by keeping most data local to your device.
All data related to contacts and messages is stored locally on your device. We do not upload or store this data on external servers. Any analytics data collected through third-party services (e.g., Firebase) is anonymized to prevent identification.
We employ appropriate security measures to protect your personal data, including encryption for local storage and regular security audits. However, no method of data transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We recommend using strong device locks and keeping your software updated.
The App requests specific Android permissions only when necessary for core features. We explain each one below, including why it's needed and how it's used. You can review and revoke permissions in your device settings.
SMS Access
The permissions READ_SMS, WRITE_SMS, SEND_SMS, and RECEIVE_SMS may be required to access your device's SMS, send SMS/MMS, receive messages/MMS, and receive delivery reports of successfully sent messages.
android.permission.READ_SMS
android.permission.WRITE_SMS
android.permission.SEND_SMS
android.permission.RECEIVE_SMS
Contacts Access
The permission READ_CONTACTS may be required to access your device's contacts locally on your device in order to display and manage contacts, including contact numbers and names. We do not store or transmit your contact data to any third parties.
android.permission.READ_CONTACTS
Phone Call
The permissions CALL_PHONE and READ_PHONE_STATE allow the App to provide SIM selection functionality when sending the message from the message details screen.
android.permission.READ_PHONE_STATE
Notification Access
The App may utilize the POST_NOTIFICATIONS permission to send notifications related to incoming messages and SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM permission to schedule the SMS to send to the user from the app. The notifications sent from the app are solely for the purpose of enhancing your user experience within the App.
android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS
android.permission.SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM
Network Access
This may be required for downloading updates or serving advertisements. It is also necessary for Google AdMob, Firebase, and other third-party services integrated into the App.
android.permission.INTERNET
android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE
Wake Lock
The permission WAKE_LOCK allows the App to turn your device on if the screen is off and show notifications when a message arrives.
android.permission.WAKE_LOCK
System Alert Window
The SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW permission allows the App to display overlays or floating windows above other apps. This is useful for the "After Call Screen" feature, enabling the App to show a floating video player or UI.
android.permission.SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW
Foreground Service
The FOREGROUND_SERVICE permission allows the App to run backup/restore in the background so you can use other apps while backup/restore is running.
android.permission.FOREGROUND_SERVICE
android.permission.FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC
We integrate trusted third-party libraries and SDKs to enhance functionality. These are listed below with their purposes. None of them store or transmit your messages or contact data unless anonymized for analytics or ads.
Firebase Analytics: We use Firebase (com.google.firebase:firebase-analytics) to collect anonymized data about app usage (like screen views and feature interactions). This helps us understand how users engage with the app and improve future updates. For more details, see Firebase Privacy and Security.
Firebase Crashlytics: Crashlytics (com.google.firebase:firebase-crashlytics) automatically reports crashes and app errors. This data helps us fix bugs and improve stability. It does not include any personal or sensitive information.
Realm DB: We use RealmDB (io.realm:realm-android-library:10.17.0) to store and manage data locally on your device. This database does not store or transmit your messages or contact data to any third parties.
SDP: We use SDP (com.intuit.sdp:sdp-android:1.1.0) to manage a responsive and flexible user interface across different device ratios and sizes.
SSP: We use SDP (com.intuit.ssp:ssp-android:1.1.0) to manage a responsive and flexible user interface across different device ratios and sizes.
Glide: We use Glide (com.github.bumptech.glide:glide:4.16.0) to efficiently display images and media within the App.
Dexter: We use Dexter (com.karumi:dexter:6.2.3) to ask and manage runtime permissions in the app whenever required. This helps providing smooth & hassle-free user experience within the app.
Tibbi: We use Tibbi (com.github.tibbi:android-smsmms:c3e678befd) to make SMS and MMS utility functions easier.
EventBus: We use EventBus (org.greenrobot:eventbus:3.3.1) to efficiently send events and data within the App.
Libphonenumber: We use LibPhonenumber (io.michaelrocks:libphonenumber-android:8.13.26) to remove country codes or detect numbers with country codes in messages.
Parse Java or Kotlin Class to JSON: We use Moshi (com.squareup.moshi:moshi:1.12.0) as well as Gson (com.google.code.gson:gson:2.10.1) for Android, Java, and Kotlin for parsing JSON into Java and Kotlin classes. This library simplifies the process of converting user data into a JSON format for backup and restoration. Users can select to back up or restore their data using a .json file stored in local storage.
Swipe View: We use Cymchad BaseRecyclerViewAdapterHelper4 (io.github.cymchad:BaseRecyclerViewAdapterHelper4:4.3.2) to implement swipe features for archiving or deleting messages.
Hilt Dependency: We use Hilt DI (com.google.dagger:hilt-android:2.57.2) to simplify the management of dependencies in an MVVM architecture. This helps reduce boilerplate code and improves testability by automatically providing dependencies where needed.
Consecutive Scroller: We use ConsecutiveScroller (com.github.donkingliang:ConsecutiveScroller:4.6.4) to provide fast scrolling functionality through the contacts list in the New Message screen when selecting a contact to send a message.
All application-related data remains stored solely on your device. Should you decide to uninstall the App, all this locally stored data will be permanently erased from your device. Data gathered by external services operates under their specific data retention protocols.
External Service Data: Any information collected by our third-party partners (such as Firebase Analytics or Google AdMob) is governed by their respective retention schedules. While we cannot dictate their specific retention periods, we ensure all data shared by us is anonymized. For example, anonymized analytics information might be held by Firebase for up to 14 months to support ongoing App development.
NOTE: As of this moment, the App does not contain any options for in-app purchases or subscriptions. We reserve the right to introduce such features in the future.
The App itself does not employ cookies. However, third-party entities, including but not limited to Google AdMob or Firebase Analytics, may deploy cookies or comparable technologies (like device identifiers) to collect non-identifiable data for purposes like advertising or usage analysis.
You retain control over these tracking settings through your device or web browser preferences. Be aware that disabling these technologies may impact the functionality of specific elements, such as the personalization of advertisements.
We engage external services for the specific functions listed below, with a continuous commitment to upholding data protection legislation:
App Usage Measurement: Firebase Analytics gathers usage data in an anonymized format, providing us insights into user interaction patterns, which allows us to enhance the App’s overall performance and features.
Advertising Delivery: Google AdMob is utilized to display advertisements within the App. This advertising content may be customized for relevance based on collected anonymized data.
Targeted Re-Engagement: Services, including Google Ads or Facebook, may use anonymized information to present relevant advertisements to you on their respective external platforms.
Payment Facilitation: Google Play Services is responsible for the secure handling of all payment processes related to future in-app purchases or subscriptions.
We guarantee that all information shared with these third parties is anonymized and strictly adheres to relevant data protection statutes, including the GDPR and CCPA.
