Welcome to Messages, an Android application developed by Mecha Byte ("we," "us," or "our"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding the information we collect, use, and disclose when you use our mobile application. This policy applies to the Messages app and is designed to comply with the Google Play Developer Program Policies, GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and CalOPPA.
We value your privacy above all else. We do not collect any type of personal user data. Our application does not require you to create an account or provide personal information such as your name, email address, or phone number to function.
All operations, including message history management and data recovery, are performed locally on your device. We do not share any of your personal data with third-party companies, services, or individuals. Since all sensitive messaging data is processed and stored locally, it never leaves your device through our application.
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), we process your data based on the following legal grounds:
Contractual Necessity: To provide the SMS and messaging services you expect from the app.
Consent: For showing personalized advertisements and collecting analytics (where applicable).
Legitimate Interests: To improve app stability and performance via crash reporting.
To provide a complete SMS experience, the app requires specific Android permissions. We only request permissions that are essential for the app's functionality:
SMS Access (android.permission.READ_SMS, android.permission.WRITE_SMS): Allows the app to read incoming text messages and send or update SMS messages. This is necessary to display and manage your conversations.
SMS Communication (android.permission.SEND_SMS, android.permission.RECEIVE_SMS): Enables real-time message delivery and automatic detection of new incoming messages for a smooth two-way communication experience.
Notification Access (android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS): Used to send alerts for new messages and delivery updates so you never miss a conversation.
Phone State Access (android.permission.READ_PHONE_STATE): Used primarily to detect SIM card status and identify available SIMs for multi-SIM devices.
Contacts Access (android.permission.READ_CONTACTS): Accesses your contact list to display names instead of just numbers and helps you easily select recipients.
Boot Completed Access (android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED): Allows the app to reschedule your "Scheduled Messages" after a device restart.
Exact Alarm Scheduling (android.permission.SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM): Necessary to send scheduled messages at the precise time you have set.
Wake Lock Access (android.permission.WAKE_LOCK): Keeps the device awake temporarily while processing or sending scheduled messages to ensure they are not interrupted.
Your messages and contacts are stored locally on your device using DataStore (Preferences) and internal databases. We do not upload this content to any external servers. While we use industry-standard libraries to manage data, please remember that no method of electronic storage or transmission is absolutely secure. We encourage you to use device-level security (like PINs or biometrics) to protect the data stored on your phone.
We use several high-quality SDKs to enhance the app's performance and UI. Each may handle technical data according to their own policies:
ConsecutiveScroller: Handles smooth nested scrolling for a better UI experience.
Firebase BoM & Analytics: Manages library versions and tracks anonymous usage patterns to improve the app.
Firebase Crashlytics: Monitors and reports app crashes in real-time to help us fix bugs.
Firebase Messaging: Used to deliver push notifications efficiently.
Hilt & Hilt Compiler: Used for internal dependency injection (no data collection).
SSP & SDP: Ensures the UI looks consistent across different screen sizes.
Glide: Used for efficient image loading and caching.
Serialization-json: Uses Kotlin extensions for modern data handling.
DataStore: A modern way to store small key-value data locally.
The app displays advertisements and uses analytics to remain a free service. These third parties may use device identifiers (like the Android Advertising ID) to serve ads or analyze performance:
AdMob and AdX (Google): For showing relevant ads.
Facebook (Meta): For showing relevant ads.
While this is a mobile app and does not use traditional web cookies, the advertising and analytics SDKs mentioned above use "Mobile Identifiers" (such as the Android Advertising ID) to achieve similar goals, like remembering your ad preferences or tracking app usage.
Any data processing related to your actual SMS messages (reading, sending, blocking, archiving) happens strictly on your mobile device. We do not have access to your private conversations. Third-party SDKs only process technical metadata (like device model, OS version, or interaction events) to help the app run correctly.
Because we do not collect your data on our servers, we do not "retain" it. Your messages and settings stay on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app. Uninstalling the app will remove all associated local data.
All payments and subscriptions are handled safely by Google Play Billing. We do not collect, store, or see your payment details such as card information or Google account passwords.
Subscriptions: Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel them before the next billing date. You can manage or cancel your subscription anytime from your Google Play account settings. If you cancel, you will continue to enjoy premium features until the current billing period ends.
Purchase Information: Google may share limited, non-personal purchase details with us, such as subscription status or validity, so we can unlock premium features.
Refunds & Cancellations: All refund requests must be made through Google Play, following Google Play’s refund rules.
Third-Party Sharing: We do not share your purchase or subscription information with any third parties, except when required by Google for payment verification.
Policies: All in-app purchases and subscriptions follow the
If you are a resident of the European Union, you have the following rights:
Access: Review any information we might have (primarily technical logs if you contact support).
Rectification: Ask us to correct any inaccuracies.
Erasure: Request that we delete any technical data we hold.
Portability: Request a copy of your data in a machine-readable format.
California residents have the right to know what personal information is being collected, the right to delete that information, and the right to opt-out of the "sale" of personal information. Note that we do not sell your personal data.
We do not track our users over time and across third-party websites to provide targeted advertising and therefore do not respond to Do Not Track (DNT) signals.
Technical data processed by third-party SDKs (like Firebase or AdMob) may be transferred to and stored on servers located in the United States or other countries. By using the app, you consent to these transfers.
We ensure our app does not contain any malware, viruses, or harmful code. We do not engage in any activity that interferes with or disrupts networks, servers, or other infrastructure.
Our app may contain links to other sites (such as ad destinations). If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that site. We strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of every site you visit.
Our app is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.
We will disclose your information where required to do so by law or subpoena if we believe that such action is necessary to comply with the law and the reasonable requests of law enforcement.
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date at the top.
