I am Okopiro Meshack Masinde a facilitator of English and Literature. I completed my Bachelor's Degree in Education at The Presbyterian University of East Africa and graduated on 6th December, 2024 with Second Class Upper Division Honors.
I was excited to embark on the journey of learning and growth in the Certificate of Teaching International Curricula course.
I've been immersed in the world of education for many years, both as a student and as a teacher. My passion for learning has always been a driving force, and I've found immense joy in sharing knowledge and inspiring others. I've had the privilege of working with diverse learners, from young children to adults, and each experience has enriched my understanding of effective teaching and learning.
I chose this course because I believe that it will help me develop and new pedagogical approaches which are key to unlocking the full potential of every student and indeed my expectations were achieved. I'm now ready to dive deeper into innovative teaching strategies, explore the latest educational theories, and refine my pedagogical skills in a classroom set up. My tenure in this Course I gained practical insights and tools that I can immediately apply to my classroom, fostering a more engaging and effective learning environment. Just to mention but a few I have gained ICT collaboration tools like animation, Educaplay, Kahoot and canva skills that will be helpful in technology integration.
Beyond the classroom, I enjoyed various activities like neetworking where as the President of CTIC group C I was able to interact with many teachers . We exchanged ideas and build networks . These provided me with balance, inspiration, and a fresh perspective as ana Educator.
Something unique about me is that I started my professional journey as a young educator whereby I started teaching when I was a second year University student. In addition I completed my University Education in less than three years, this also provided me time to grow professionally. I was in a position to attain three Diploma certificates related to Education and a variety of professional development courses and workshop trainings.
My expectations for this course were achived in that the course provided me with a comprehensive understanding of learner-centered principles, practical strategies for creating engaging and effective lessons, opportunities to collaborate with peers and learn from their experiences and a supportive learning environment that encourages critical thinking and creativity
My goals for this course were achieved in that it enhanced my ability to design and deliver student-centered lessons, develop stronger classroom management skills, foster a positive and inclusive learning environment and become a more reflective and innovative educator
My Teaching and Learning Philosophy is that I believe that every learner is unique and deserves a personalized approach to education. I strive to create a classroom where students feel safe, valued, and motivated to learn. I emphasize critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity, encouraging students to think critically and question the world around them. I believe that learning is a lifelong journey, and I am committed to inspiring a love of learning in my students.
As an educator I have been in the teaching field for the past two years, my tenure in the teaching field provided me with a vast teaching experience. My first experience was at Alliance High School which established a strong foundation in my professional journey. I have worked in different tuition schools which also moulded me to be a professional educator.
after exiting Alliance High School in May, 2024, I joined Excel Academy where I facilitated CBC curriculum as I was waiting for my graduation. My tenure at Excel Academy was full of challenges; mental suffering of seeing colleague teachers being fired every now and then with no reason, the school was after the performance of students in that teachers were required to produce a mean score of 80% and above or else you will be fired. Lucky enough I managed to raise the mean in all the subjects I taught this sustained me there. I am planning to resign and leave the school after gaining knowledge from this course I am looking forward to join a place where I can utilise my newly acquired knowledge and narture learners potentials. From this course I realized that a teacher is just a facilitator, I am supposed to facilitate what the learner needs but not what I need as a teacher.
This motivated me to leave Excel Academy come January
In conclusion, As a Global Educator( THE EDUCATOR) I am ready to explore all curricula and tailor them to diverse learners. I am now looking forward to join any International school as an intern for internship so as to gain experience and apply my newly acquired knowledge from RIARA UNIVERSITY
