Our History
MESCOT was founded as a result of witnessing social injustices committed to Women and Children in the Society due to lack of holistic support and empowerment to them in the post war conflict in northern Uganda for over 22years War. Most affected groups are also orphans, and other vulnerable children, youths, child mothers, Single mothers, children in Conflict with the Law, in the community in Amuru district who are having common problems after the post-conflict war in Northern Uganda and the war in the neighboring country- Southern Sudan that has led to the influx of refugees in the area. The greatest percentage of children face neglects, and abuses due to absolute poverty and this has led to early child marriages, teenage pregnancies, while many women have continued to face abuse of their rights such economic violence and sexual violence by many men hence affecting them and the children negatively. The situation has been worsened with high level of poverty, unemployment among many vulnerable youths, over flooding of information on sexuality and unscrupulous behaviors with high consumption of alcohol and drug abuse which is skyrocketing among young generations in the post-conflict era in the region.
