The Messier Catalog is a popular list of deep sky objects among amateur astronomers. Created by and named after Charles Messier, the list is well known, in part, due to the accessibility of the objects found on its list. Even the most modest astronomical equipment can view various objects on the Messier Catalog. Furthermore, the Astronomical League gives out a special award to whoever can spot every object on the Messier Catalog. Those who succeed are given a certificate and are bestowed the honor of joining the Messier Club. Included among the objects in the Messier Catalog are the Orion nebula, The Great Hercules Globular Cluster, and The Pleiades.
