1. Introduction

Menya ("we", "our", "us") is a Kinyarwanda language learning application developed by Runi RW (runirw.com).

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use

the Menya mobile application (Package: com.menya.kinyarwanda).

By registering and using Menya, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information you provide directly:

- Full name

- Age

- Email address

- Password (encrypted by Firebase Authentication — we never see it in plain text)

- Profile photo (stored locally on your device and used on your certificate)

2.2 Information collected automatically:

- Learning progress (completed lessons, XP earned, streak)

- Level and achievements

- App usage data (which lessons were completed, scores)

2.3 Information we do NOT collect:

- We do not collect location data

- We do not collect device contacts

- We do not sell your data to third parties

3. How We Use Your Information

- To create and manage your account

- To track your learning progress and display it in the app

- To generate your Certificate of Language Proficiency

- To display your name and avatar on the public leaderboard (XP rankings)

- To sync your progress across devices via Firebase

- To improve the app and fix bugs

4. Profile Photo

Your profile photo is:

- Stored locally on your device only

- Used to personalize your certificate PDF

- Embedded in your QR code verification data on your device

- Never uploaded to our servers or shared with third parties

5. Camera and Microphone

- Camera: Used to take your profile photo during registration and to scan certificate QR codes

- Microphone: Used for speech practice exercises in Kinyarwanda lessons

- Photo Library: Used to select your profile photo and save your certificate PDF

These permissions are only used within the app for the stated purposes.

6. Data Storage and Security

- Account data (name, email, progress) is stored securely on Google Firebase (Firestore and Firebase

Authentication)

- Firebase uses industry-standard encryption (TLS/SSL) for data in transit

- Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text

- Your profile photo is stored locally on your device and never transmitted to our servers

7. Google Sign-In

If you sign in with Google, we receive your:

- Name

- Email address

- Google profile information

8. Leaderboard

Your display name, XP score, streak, and chosen avatar are visible to other users on the public leaderboard.

You can change your display name at any time in the Profile settings.

9. Certificates

Your certificate contains:

- Your full name

- Your age

- Your learning achievements (XP, level, lessons completed)

- A QR code for verification

The certificate is generated as a PDF on your device and is not stored on our servers.

10. Children's Privacy

Menya is designed for users aged 4 and above. For users under 13, we recommend parental supervision. We do

not knowingly collect personal information from children under 4 years of age.

11. Data Deletion

You can delete your account and all associated data by:

1. Going to Profile → Logout

2. Contacting us at: privacy@runirw.com (mailto:privacy@runirw.com)

Upon request, we will delete all your data from Firebase within 30 days.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the

app. Continued use of Menya after changes constitutes acceptance.
