There is one enduring lesson our College English 12 class embraced during our reading and discussions of Tuesdays With Morrie: Listening is an act of love. I have repeated this phrase in many classes, and some have embraced it more readily than others. This class, made up of extraordinarily empathetic and diligent students, understood it and put it into practice immediately.
While the act of listening may seem simple on its face, this class achieved a new understanding of the power of listening and of expressing gratitude for the mentors we have in our lives. The interviews below are a record of their love for their mentors, their curiosity about the world around them, and their ability to draw lessons from difficult experiences. The project demonstrates not only the students' growth as listeners and storytellers, but as adept composers and creators whose abilities to tell stories go far beyond the traditional essay or research paper.
Armed with these skills, this group of young adults will make our world a better place.
