Introduction to Mental Health in Collegiate Athletics
By: Jalyn Tse
While many have been investigating mental health regarding collegiate athletes, there needs to be a more proactive initiative to combating this problem. There is a clear understanding across all colleges that there is a lack of awareness and lack of support for those struggling. As a coach and mentor to many athletes, it is important that YOU are playing a supportive and perceptive role in each of your student-athletes' lives. This will ultimately result in a healthier and more productive student-athlete in the classroom, at practice and in games.
The purpose of this workshop is to inform coaches on the problems that poor mental health does to their athletes and teach them how to better address and manage them. In addition, this workshop holds as a way to keep coaches accountable of where their team is at regarding mental health before, during, and after their sport's season.
