Scatterball is played in an open field. There are no 'sides' like in traditional dodgeball; instead, all teams rove the field of play freely.
Scatterball is played with multiple teams called 'alliances,' usually 2-4 players each. A typical game will involve anywhere from 12-36 players, divided evenly among 3-18 alliances.
The goal of Scatterball is for you and your alliance to eliminate all others players, so that your alliance is the last one standing.
You eliminate another player by throwing a dodgeball at them and hitting any part of their body, as long as they don't catch the ball.
If you catch a ball before it hits the ground, even if it ricochets off your body first, then the thrower is eliminated.
If you get eliminated, you sit down in the spot where you were hit. You can't interfere with the game in any way while you're seated.
Once seated, you watch and wait to see if the person who eliminated you gets eliminated. If they get eliminated, you are 'resurrected' and can stand up and return immediately to play.
