Cumulative Selection of a Passive-Actuator
In this study a cumulative selection algorithm is applied to an actuator design optimization problem. The basic device designs are introduced to the optimization environment. With every generation, only the designs with less power consumption, less mass, less coil temperature, higher torque, and higher magnetic field are selected as the next generation. The modifications applied to candidate design are dimensions, wire types, and power input as voltage and ampere.
The main advantage of using rollers is that their measured off-state torque is as low as 20 N.mm . Additionally the off-state torque of the rollers is independent of the radius of the device.

a Cell-Based Additive Manufacturing Virtual Prototyping System
This paper describes a VP (Virtual Prototyping) system which provides a cost free environment for the optimization of the AM (Additive Manufacturing) system. This VP facilitates the product development by uniting the AM process and virtual reality in order to produce virtual and digital prototypes. Moreover, this VP system combines particle based and layer based processes by including powder particles as its input material. These particles are used as material codes in the VP system. This coding enables adding individual cells at desired locations in the solid body and enables obtaining basic building blocks in homogeneous state or in heterogeneous state by mixing with other powder particles. These blocks or cells are collated side by side to obtain the heterogeneous material property all over the solid body. The thin layers obtained by these cells are then subsequently stacked up to fabricate a virtual prototype. Manufacture of multi-material artifacts with smart cells is also possible due to selective-additive nature of this AM process.
