About Us:
The MEMS, Embedded Electronics and Energy Systems (MEMSENS) Lab at the Centre for Interdisciplinary and Convergent Technologies (CIDCT) (formerly known as Advanced Technology Development Centre (ATDC)), IIT Kharagpur is a multidisciplinary research group dedicated to advancing next-generation sensing, embedded intelligence, and sustainable technological solutions. Our work lies at the intersection of Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS), electronics, energy harvesting, and intelligent systems, with a strong emphasis on translating fundamental research into real-world applications. At MEMSENS Lab, we focus on the design, fabrication, and interfacing of MEMS devices, alongside the development of robust embedded systems and energy-efficient solutions. Our research spans a diverse range of domains, including renewable energy harvesting and power management, self-powered autonomous systems, and integrated navigation solutions using GNSS, IMU, and LiDAR for automotive and UAV applications. We also actively explore AI/ML-driven structural health monitoring, smart instrumentation, and IoT-based systems for precision agricultture, biomedical applications, and Industry 4.0.
The lab fosters a collaborative and innovation-driven environment where researchers work across disciplines to solve complex engineering challenges. Equipped with modern design, simulation, and prototyping facilities, MEMSENS enables rapid development—from concept to implementation. Students and researchers benefit from hands-on experience in circuit design, embedded programming, sensor integration, and system-level development.

Prof. Banibrata Mukherjee is currently working as an Assistant Professor in Centre for Interdisciplinary and Convergent Technologies (formerly known as Advanced Technology Development Centre) at IIT Kharagpur since June 2019. Prior to joining IIT Kharagpur, he served as an Assistant Professor in Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at NIT Rourkela for more than 3 years. Regarding his academic background, he received B.E degree in Instrumentation and Electronics from Jadavpur University in 2009 and M.Tech in Instrumentation and Ph.D degree both from Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Kharagpur in 2011 and 2016 respectively. He is a Senior member of IEEE, and recipient of Early Career Research Award from Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB). He is serving as the Editorial Board Member in the pretigious journal of Scientific Reports, Springer Nature since 2025. His primary research interests include sensors and interfacing circuits; energy harvester and power management circuit; MEMS devices; sensor fusion, robotics, embedded system, autonomous navigation, structural health monitoring and biomedical instrumentation. He has several publications in various reputed Journals and Conferences. He has been actively working on various sponsored projects in the area of hybrid energy harvester, self-powered MEMS sensor system, sensor fusion based navigation system etc.
