Background about MemSci-Brine 2024
Objectives
The desalination sector plays a vital role in supplying dry regions and places with restricted access to conventional water sources with clean water. However, there are serious environmental problems associated with the byproduct's manufacturing, brine. Because conventional brine disposal techniques are not sustainable, brine management and repurposing require creative solutions. The most recent developments in membrane technologies as well as other cutting-edge techniques for turning brine from a waste product into useful resources will be the main topics of this international workshop “MemSci-Brine”.
Goals of MemSci-Brine 2024
To explore and discuss the latest advancements in membrane technologies for brine management.
To present case studies and research findings on resource recovery from brine.
To facilitate knowledge exchange between industry experts, researchers, and policymakers.
To identify challenges and opportunities in the implementation of brine-to-resource technologies.
To promote sustainable practices in the desalination and wastewater treatment industries.
Key themes and main topics
Innovative membrane technologies.
Resource recovery from brine.
Sustainable brine management.
Integrated approaches to desalination and wastewater management.
Future directions and emerging trends.

Expected outcomes of the workshop
The expected outcomes of the program are:
Enhanced understanding of innovative membrane technologies for brine management.
Identification of practical and scalable solutions for resource recovery from brine.
Strengthened collaboration between industry, academia, and policymakers.
Development of actionable recommendations for sustainable brine management practices.
Participants will have a practical experience with different membrane fabrication techniques.
There will be dedicated sessions on porous membranes' fundamentals, transport mechanism, and governing theory.
Demonstrate different membrane filtration assemblies with in-depth elaboration on operational parameters.
Participants will be educated about different membrane characterization and autopsy techniques.
The training program will give participants the knowledge and skills to make more informed decisions about membrane-based desalination and water/wastewater management industries.
Proposed programs
The MemSci-Brine 2024 workshop will have the following programs:
A. Lectures: The program will include a series of lectures led by experienced resource experts. These lectures will give participants a comprehensive overview of the latest membrane-based technologies and tools and their application in water, desalination, energy, and healthcare. Through the lectures, participants will gain a deep understanding of the critical concepts and theories related to membrane technologies. The interactive lectures will allow participants to ask questions and engage with the material meaningfully.
B. Hands-on tutorials and practicals: Apart from classroom lectures, there will be exposure to membrane fabrication, characterization, autopsy techniques, and different applications.
C. Discussion sessions: There will be in-depth discussion among participants, researchers and industry representatives to address
D. Minor projects and presentations: Participants will have the opportunity to do small projects and present their results with the rest of the group. The presentations will cover a wide range of topics. This will provide a platform for sharing knowledge and ideas and foster collaboration and networking among workshop attendees.
