Pioneering Next-Generation BioMEMS/NEMS, Bioelectronic Medicine, and Translational Therapeutics to Enhance Human Health.
1. About Our Lab
At the Micro & Nano Systems Laboratory for Biomedical Engineering (MNSL), we develop innovative micro- and nanoscale devices and systems that bridge the gap between engineering innovations and clinical translation. By seamlessly integrating micro/nano-engineering, semiconductor microfabrication, electronic engineering, and biomedical sciences, our research spans from in vitro diagnostic platforms to in vivo therapeutic implants.
We are dedicated to solving critical biomedical challenges—ranging from hearing restoration and cardiovascular monitoring to patient-derived drug screening and battery-free bio-implants.
2. Core Research Pillars
1. Advanced Auditory Interfaces & Next-Gen Cochlear Implants: We are pioneering low-power Artificial Basilar Membranes (ABM) and 3D-printed, drug-releasing microelectrodes to overcome the physical limits of conventional cochlear implants, minimize tissue fibrosis, and preserve residual hearing.
2. Bioelectronic Devices & In-Vitro Bionic Twin Platforms: We design flexible wearable sensors with machine learning for non-invasive continuous cardiovascular tracking, alongside patient-derived 3D muscle bionic twin platforms for ALS drug discovery and bio-mechanical evaluation.
3. Wireless Power Transfer & Energy Harvesting for Bio-Implants: We develop high-output Magneto-Mechano-Electric (MME) generators and acoustic power/data transmission systems, paving the way for fully MRI-compatible, battery-free, long-term therapeutic bio-implants.
