Alfonso M. Gonzalez
Alfonso Michael Gonzalez, a native of Brownsville TX, is a proud alumnus of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley where he studied with Dianne Brumley, Director Emeritus of Choral Studies and voice professors Amy Hymel Brownlow and Dr. Daniel Hunter-Holly.
Gonzalez is about to start his 2nd year as Head Choir Director at Memorial Middle School after serving as an Assistant Choir Director at Harlingen High School for the past five years and currently serves as Co-Music Director at Treasure Hills Presbyterian Church. Prior to this, he was an Assistant Choir Director at James “Nikki” Rowe High School in McAllen Texas and Elementary Music Teacher at Landrum Elementary in San Benito Texas.
Notably, Gonzalez was one of the featured conductors for the 2024 Texas Choral Directors Association Elementary Honor Choir, was the featured clinician for the 2025 T.M.E.A. Region 29 Middle School Region Tenor/Bass Choir and has served as clinician/conductor for elementary honor choirs in Harlingen, Brownsville and San Benito, TX. Among being named Landrum Elementary’s 2017-2018 Teacher of the Year, Gonzalez has also provided professional development sessions for San Benito C.I.S.D., Harlingen C.I.S.D., the Rio Grande Valley Orff Chapter.
Gonzalez has coached several students and colleagues achieve success in T.M.E.A. Auditions, U.I.L. Evaluations, N.A.T.S. (National Association Teachers of Singing) Competitions and assists in coaching his 2025 Regional Middle school Chess Championship team who competed and placed in the Top 10 National title in Orlando, Florida May 2025 at the U.S.C.F. National Chess Championships.
