2026 Memoir '44 Tournament
Welcome to the World Boardgaming Championship Memoir '44 remote PBeM ("play by email") 2026 tournament.
Eligibility: All entrants are required to be members of the Boardgame Players Association (BPA) at the Associate level ($10 USD) or higher. See https://www.boardgamers.org/joinindex.html for details about joining. Membership is verified one week before the tournament starts.
To Register: Send real first and last name, email address, and BGA name via direct message to Winn81 on BGA or BGG. Registration closes one week before the start date.

Approximately one match per month. If all the matches for a round are complete, the following round may start earlier.
Games will take place on Board Game Arena (www.boardgamearena.com). There will be two phases. Phase 1 is a 5 round swiss system, where players with similar points/skill/luck are paired in each round (except round one which is random). You will not play the same player twice in Phase 1. The top 6 players from Phase 1 receive BPA laurels and advance to Phase 2, with standings reset. Phase 2 is round robin, where each player plays each remaining player once.
Scoring: Each match is worth 4 points. A player who sweeps his opponent will get 4 points (and his opponent will get 0). If each player wins 1 game, the one who gets more medals will get 3 points (and his opponent will get 1 point). In case of a tie for medals, each player will get 2 points. Tiebreakers for overall rankings: total points then cumulative medal differential then cumulative figure differential then head to head. A BGA forum will be set up for players to report scores.
Time Limit: Games are turn-based but please respect the deadlines. Each game should be completed within 3 weeks. If a match goes over 4 weeks there may be a penalty for the player who used the most thinking time: 1st violation - warning, 2nd violation - a 1 point penalty may be assessed, 3rd violation - disqualification likely. In the event a match goes over the deadline, I may temporarily estimate the standings in order to keep the tournament moving.
Scenarios: Based on feedback from last year, the scenarios this time are more strategic "from the front" 6-8 medal scenarios from the days of wonder database. They are some of highest rated scenarios from previous online tournaments from the days of Memoir 44 online.

In the event of AWOL, a substitute from the Memoir community may be used as a substitute. The AWOL player will forfeit with 0 points and a difference of -6 medals.
Players who are not premium players on BGA can enter, but in the event two non-premium players are matched up, one of them will have to go premium or else it will count as a loss for both players.
Prizes: BPA will award a plaque to the tournament winner. The top 6 finishers receive laurels.
To be a BPA sanctioned PBeM tournament, we need a minimum of 16 entrants.
General membership level instructions: If you are planning on registering for the general membership, buy an associate membership now and then when you register for the general membership, make the payment $10 less and put in the payment notes that it is an upgrade.
PBeM membership level: To help PBeM only members (and so we can start the next tournament as soon as possible), the next tournament after this one will start in December so you won't have to pay again.
This tournament has been officially approved by both BPA and BGA.
If needed, the GM and assistant GM will determine the fairest resolution for all.
