As a long term goal I would like to diminish the importance given to rote learning and I hope to open the minds of the students to innovative thinking. My interest in teaching originated from listening to my Professors’ who captivated entire class rooms and introduced us to the realm of Chemical Engineering.
Teaching Interests
I often emphasize that everything around us has felt the touch of a Chemical Engineer at some point. I would like to teach transport phenomena or Modern Separation Techniques. It is my belief that a great teacher should be sound in the fundamentals as well as have an idea about the current research encompassing these subjects. It is the interest of a teacher which leads to intensive preparation which results in good material and sufficient problems being discussed with the students. The key is that I understand the level of the audience and then build up from there.I would like to teach Modern Separation Techniques with emphasis on Membrane Technology owing to the research interests.
Teaching Philosophy
Preparation is the key ingredient in order to become a successful and respected teacher. More time spent in preparations opens new facets of Chemical Engineering. Planting seeds of curiosity and motivating the students to ask questions on the subject will help them apply to the so found knowledge in their projects. The ability of students to translate fundamental knowledge to real life applications is the goal I strive to achieve. I quantify success as the success of my students and am happy that a number of U.G. students who worked with me on their research project were employed/ obtained MS admits at top 300 Universities (QS ranking).
