The consistencies that have followed my writings through the journey of all my Scum Villain works. These elements range from my Scum Villain AU, The Unwritten Book, and those smaller AUs and stories unrelated to the Unwritten. These will expand and multiply as the world gets fleshed out.
The Demon Realm lands are as follows:
Zhou Bei'jiang: The North
Home to the Mobei Clain and landmarks such as Afterglow Mountain, the Northern Empty Sea, and the Temporal Glaciers. The denizens' abodes are mostly caves and underground burrows.
Xi'jiang: The West
Home to the Xiyu Clan and houses the realm's largest library in the castle. Its castle is carved into the cliff faces of the region's largest canyon.
Zhong'yang: The Central Plains
Home to the Emperor's Abode. The Heavenly Palace is the only above-ground structure in the Entire Demon Realm. The region's sky is shrouded in a red mist that blocks the harmful sun, allowing demons to live near the Emperor's abode.
Nan'jiang: The South
A whole territory of forest, given to Sha Hualing to govern. Responsible for the Jadeheavens Island.
Dong'jiang: The East
Home to the Donghan Clan. A large collection of islands united under one rule. Responsible for islands such as the Mulberry Islands and the famous Jade Rabbit Isle. Some abodes of their residents are above-ground, such as this region's humble castle.
The Social Status of the Demon world is different from what could be expected. Unlike the human realm, a Demon Emperor rules the entire land; yet, he allows ruling demon royals to retain their titles and lands. A Demon Emperor is above the kings, but a King is the ruling power of their respective land. Due to this, the ruling royals are sometimes referred to as King Deputies to the Emperor.
The North
Afterglow Mountain is the largest mountain of the Northern Lands of the demon realm. Afterglow is considered hallowed grounds, in which only the Performers of the Rites can enter and dwell. Inside the mountain are several chambers, each containing different rites and secrets that only the Performers can interpret, and in turn give as a temporary boost in power to the Mobei King. The Afterglow Mountain and the Rites within it are possessively guarded by the Northernfolk. The intimate topic of the Mountain, Performers, and the Rites is restricted to only the Royal Family, although every Northern Demon is aware of its importance.
The original Performers of the Rites were a sub-clan of the Mobei's royal line. However, they mysteriously disappeared hundreds of years ago. Recent Performers of the Rites are demons who have been trained in the ways of the originals and recognized by the Kings. In addition to being the only ones allowed in Afterglow, they are known for their mystifying boons and unwavering loyalty to the Crown. They rank themselves with Moons (generation) and Suns (inheritance order). The highest clan member is called the Exarch and serves in the Northern Court as the Left Hand of the Mobei King, standing equal to the King's Right Hand.
The frigid, raging sea that separates the North from the land masses of the Central Plains, the West, the South, and the Islands of the East. The Northern Empty is home to countless sea demon beasts. There is a tale that claims that the Northern Empty swallowed an ancient city of riches due to the people's unending greed.
The Mobei Clan is blessed with the power of dragons and the powerful rulers of the Northern Lands. Their clan carries the recessive powers of the Performers of the Rites, a sub-clan that was bred into extinction, as those born from the clan can only pick one of the two powerful paths to dedicate their lives to. The Mobei Clan's naming convention usually follows the elements of nature; an art name is chosen by those of age who have achieved a great feat. The Mobei King's direct heirs are the ones who do not have the honor of receiving an art name.
