“Transforming knowledge and creativity into action for mental wellness and community impact.”
My name is Melody D. Velez, and I have just completed my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a concentration in Mental Health at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU). I am passionate about advancing mental health awareness and creating spaces where individuals—especially youth—can explore wellness through creativity and self-expression.
I am a proud mother of four and stepmother of two. Originally from the Bronx, NY, I have lived in Yonkers for the past six years. Alongside my academic journey, I have completed several certifications and continuing education courses in psychology and mental health, building a strong foundation in both theory and practice.
My work has been recognized with a Power of Influence Award for my contributions to mental health advocacy. I also bring a unique background as a former owner of a custom cake shop, where I became known as the “Cake Therapist” for offering impromptu support and encouragement to clients during consultations. This experience reinforced my conviction that mental wellness can be nurtured in unexpected and creative settings.
I have shared my voice at numerous events on topics related to youth and mental health and am the author of a self-published poetry collection that reflects my own lived experiences with resilience and healing. Currently, I serve as the Director of Community Engagement & Special Projects at Riverdale Senior Services, and I am the Founder and CEO of Let’s CREATE, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering underserved youth through therapeutic arts and mental wellness initiatives.
My journey blends personal resilience, creative expression, and professional development, and I am committed to using my education and experiences to make a meaningful impact in the mental health field.
