Rules

This is a BJCP-sanctioned competition. The mead sub-categories listed in the 2015 BJCP guidelines will be judged. The competition, including judging categories, may be restructured for judging or other purposes. All entries will be judged according to their declared sub-category.

ENTRANTS MUST BE RESIDENTS OF CANADA. ENTRIES NOT ACCEPTED FROM OUTSIDE OF CANADA.

Entrants are limited to one entry per BJCP sub-category. (i.e. one entry in M1A, one entry in M1B, etc.) .

The competition strives to provide qualified judging of all entries, including helpful judge feedback via scoresheets. Judging will be held in the lower mainland region of BC (i.e. Metro Vancouver), which has the highest concentration of certified BJCP mead judges in Canada.

Winners will be announced, and prizes may be awarded depending on sponsor participation.

Any amateur mead homebrewer age 19 or older may enter*, provided that you have never made or assisted in making mead professionally (for sale or profit) and that you do not use any professional equipment (e.g. the pilot system at a brewery or meadery, or equipment at a U-Brew business, whether or not you work there). All entries must be homemade, hand-crafted products, made from publicly available ingredients, using private, hobbiest equipment. Entrants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents (although we might expand eligibility in future years).

(*Apologies to any 18 year old homebrewers in AB or QB, but judging takes place in a jurisdiction where the drinking age is 19.)

The competition is not responsible for miscategorized entries, failure to provide required information, entries received after the entry deadline (please allow for shipping time), or damaged entries. No payment = no entry and no judging.

Each entry requires two bottles - one for the initial judging, and another in case the entry moves to the Best Of Show round. The second bottle may be opened in the initial judging if the first bottle exhibits flaws from potential packaging issues. Bottles and their contents will not be returned to entrants. As entries will not be refrigerated, please ensure that you have properly stabilized and/or sealed them. Bottle caps or champagne-style cork-and-cage closures are strongly preferred. (The organizers would like to avoid a mead shower.)

The language for entry information and judging will be English. However, if you wish to provide your information and/or receive your feedback in French, please contact the organizers and we will do our best to provide translation resources.
