Mellarius Cup 2020

Announcing Canada’s first BJCP-sanctioned mead-specific competition: the Mellarius Cup....is back for year 2!

2020 Updates and Improvements

The Mellarius Cup is back!

To build on last year's launch, we will be updating a few things:

First, the organizers are in debt from last year's competition, so we're going to have to raise entry prices a bit to make the competition viable going forward. (Rental of judging tables and chairs, some lunch for the judges (who work for free!) and and few odds and ends really adds up, even for a shoestring operation.) But we'll keep fees in line with similar competitions, and ensure the quality of judging and feedback warrants the registration fees.

Second, we intend to hand out some hardware this year! Whether this is medals, or possibly even a cup for the BOS winner will depend entirely on how many entries we receive.

Speaking of hardware... We could use some sponsors! if anyone would like to contribute to the competition financially, or provide prizes (something email-able, like a gift certificate, ideally), that would help us a lot, and we can put your logo up on this site and sing your virtues!

The entry deadlines and judging schedule has just been announced and is available on this website.

2019 Wrap-up

Judging of the inaugural 2019 homebrew-only competition took place on January 26, 2019 in Vancouver, BC

See the results page for the winners

There were 47 entries from six provinces: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and New Brunswick

Judging was conducted by 11 experienced judges from Canada and the United States. Approximately 75% of the judges are BJCP Mead Judges, and three of them are National ranked BJCP judges

Thanks to everyone who entered and volunteered for the competition! We look forward to building on that momentum in 2020.
