Prospective PhD students
The Language, Aging, & Knowledge Electrophysiology (LAKE) Lab, housed in the Psychology Department at UNLV, will be accepting applications for PhD students with a Fall 2026 start date. Applications must be submitted through the UNLV Graduate College by December 1, 2025. Depending on interests and program fit, students may apply through the PhD program in Psychological and Brain Sciences or the Interdisciplinary PhD program in Neuroscience.
Applicants should have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Psychology, Cognitive Science, Linguistics, Neuroscience, or another related field (e.g., Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences; Learning Sciences; Education). Applicants should have excellent communication skills and a strong demonstrated interest in topics related to the research focus of the lab. Preferred skills and experiences include a background in experimental research, computer programming, and/or EEG/ERP methods.
Undergraduate research volunteers
The Language, Aging, & Knowledge Electrophysiology (LAKE) Lab accepts undergraduate research volunteers on a rolling basis.
Depending on interest and progress in the lab, duties will include some or all of the following:
- Hands-on training in EEG (brainwave) data collection methods and theory
- Participating in journal clubs (where we read and discuss articles)
- Helping to conduct literature reviews
- Creating and testing web-based surveys and language materials
- Developing recruitment strategies for community participants
- Recruiting and scheduling participants for studies
- Data collection (both in-person EEG studies and web-based behavioral studies)
